This instructional program class comprises any program that generally prepares individuals to apply technical knowledge and skills to operate, maintain, and repair electrical and electronic equipment. These programs include courses in electrical circuitry, simple gearing, linkages and lubrication of machines and appliances, and the use of testing equipment.

Electronics Certificates

Electronics assemblers and fabricators assemble and fabricate electronic equipment, parts and components. Electronics inspectors and testers inspect and test electronic and electromechanical assemblies, subassemblies, parts and components to ensure conformance to prescribed standards. They are employed in electronics manufacturing plants.

Mechanical assemblers assemble a wide variety of mechanical products such as trucks, buses, snowmobiles, garden tractors, automotive engines, transmissions, outboard motors, gearboxes, hydraulic pumps and sewing machines. Inspectors check and inspect subassemblies and finished products to ensure proper quality and product specifications. They are employed by machinery and transportation equipment manufacturers and by other manufacturing companies.

The Local Industry Skills Training - Electronics and General Assembly Certificate is designed for students who have a barrier to learning and/or employment. The program is self-paced, with classroom, lab, and two four-week work experience components. You'll train to perform assembly work in the high-tech electronics field or mechanical assembly industries. The range of skills taught varies, but typically includes component preparation, fine and gross motor skills, board assembly, soldering, wire and cable preparation and hardware assembly. You'll receive further training in specific skills with manufacturing firms throughout the Lower Mainland. Students often gain employment in the manufacturing industry including jobs related to electronic and general assembly.
