Government managers in education policy development and program administration plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the development and administration of elementary, secondary and post-secondary education policies and programs. They are employed by all levels of government.

School principals plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the activities of teachers and other staff of an elementary or secondary school. They are employed by public and private schools. Administrators of elementary and secondary education plan, organize, direct, control and evaluate the academic affairs of a school system. They are employed by school boards.

Secondary school teachers prepare and teach academic, technical, vocational or specialized subjects at public and private secondary schools. Secondary school teachers who are heads of departments are included in this unit group.

Elementary school and kindergarten teachers teach basic subjects such as reading, writing and arithmetic or specialized subjects such as English or French as a second language at public and private elementary schools.

Educational counsellors advise current and prospective students on educational issues, career planning and personal development, and coordinate the provision of counselling services to students, parents, teachers, faculty and staff. They are employed by school boards and post-secondary educational institutions.

Education policy researchers, consultants and program officers conduct research, produce reports and administer elementary, secondary and post-secondary education policies and programs. They are employed by government departments, school boards, research institutes, professional associations and educational and other organizations throughout the public and private sectors, or they may be self-employed.

To receive the Certified Human Resources Professional (CHRP) designation, you must be registered with the Human Resources Professionals Association (HRPA) in good standing. Eligibility is achieved through completion of the required coursework, relevant exams, and the Job Ready Program offered by the HRPA.

The East Kootenay Teacher Education Program (EKTEP) provides students with the opportunity to complete a UVic Bachelor of Education degree at College of the Rockies (COTR) campus in Cranbrook, British Columbia, within the traditional territory of the Ktunaxa Nation. There are currently two options offered at EKTEP:

Education: Bachelor's Degree (BEd) - COTR/UVic

The Bachelor of Education as a Second Degree is designed for those who have already completed a Bachelor’s degree and are admitted to one of SFU's Teacher Education programs. You'll complete the Professional Development Program and can take minors in areas like counselling and human development, early learning, environmental education, French education, secondary teaching, and more. You'll also have the option to partake in a field school. Completion of the program gives you a recognized international credential that allows you to teach abroad.

A highly flexible program, the Bachelor of Education (BEd), will give you the skills to become a curious and versatile life-long learner and open doors to become a certified K-12 teacher in British Columbia (upon completion of a Teacher Education program).

The Professional Development Program (PDP) in Teacher Education will help you uncover your motives for teaching, explore teaching theory and practices, and learn how to use critical inquiry and reflection as tools for ongoing professional development and lifelong learning. Your studies will  combine professional coursework, multiple field experiences and a teaching practicum. Graduates qualify for a B.C. Ministry of Education teaching certificate that enables you to teach K-12 in B.C. schools—and in many other countries around the world.

The flexible Professional Linking Program enables student support workers, education assistants, counselors and other paraprofessionals employed by the school district and working in K-12 classrooms transition to a teaching career.

Professional Linking Program - French Module

The Bachelor of Education (Elementary) Degree prepares you to teach in schools in British Columbia and in provinces and territories across Canada as well as around the world wherever the BC School Curriculum is taught. You will qualify for a professional teaching certificate issued by the BC Ministry of Education, Teacher Certification Branch (TCB). This degree and certification qualifies you to teach the BC School Curriculum for grades Kindergarten to 12 (K-12) in public and private schools.

The Bachelor of Education (Secondary) Degree prepares you to teach in secondary schools. You will qualify for a professional teaching certificate from the BC Ministry of Education, Teacher Certification Branch, which certifies you to teach in secondary schools. Graduates often teach in other provinces or territories in Canada and in other countries.

The Bachelor of Education in Trades and Technology has two phases. Completion of Phase I of the BETT program will enable you to apply for a Trades Certificate teaching credential which qualifies you to teach Technology Education courses in BC high schools. The optional Phase II provides the required 150 credits for a full Bachelor of Education in Trades and Technology and the opportunity to apply for a Professional Certificate teaching credential, qualifying you to teach both Technology Education and Academic courses in the BC school curriculum.

Education (Trades and Technology) : Bachelor's Degree (BEd)

The Bachelor's Degree in Education, Elementary-French Cohort is designed for teacher candidates who wish to specialize in teaching French as a second language (French immersion or intensive French) or French as a first language (in a Francophone school) at the elementary level. Most courses are delivered and assignments are completed in French. This allows you to continue to develop your proficiency while in the program.

The Bachelor's Degree in Education, Elementary and Middle Years prepares you as an educator for the varied contexts in elementary and middle schools with a special emphasis on self-regulated learning for teaching students aged 11 to 14 years. In addition to coursework, you'll take part in practicums and Community Field Experiences to put the theory and skills you've learned to practice. After graduation, you may go on to teach in local, rural, or international schools, or may apply your skills to careers outside of schools, such as in arts organizations, science centres, non-profit organizations, and others.

Education Elementary & Middle Years: Bachelor Degree (BEd) - UBCV

The Bachelor's of Education Degree, Secondary - French are mostly taught in French. Practica occur in French immersion, in regular schools offering core French, or in Francophone schools. Learning content in French allows you to continue to develop your French proficiency during the year. You may combine French with another teaching subject concentration (e.g., Spanish or Biology).

The Bachelor's Degree in Education, Secondary prepares you to teach one or two teachable subjects in Grades 8 to 12 as a secondary school teacher. During this program, you are introduced to adolescent development and prepared methodologically to teach your subject(s).  In addition to coursework, you'll take part in practicums and Community Field Experiences to put the theory and skills you've learned to practice. After graduation, you may go on to teach in local, rural, or international schools, or may apply your skills to careers outside of schools, such as in arts organizations, science centres, non-profit organizations, and others.

Education Secondary: Bachelor Degree (UBCV)

This 16-month program offers students more than 24 weeks of practical experience in a variety of teaching contexts. You will learn to teach children in elementary grades (Kindergarten to Grade 6). The Bachelor of Education program offers practical experience both inside and outside the classroom setting, including: two school-based practicums; community field experience; a 15-week internship; and many place-based learning opportunities. Join the community and engage in collaborative learning with instructors, classmates, practising educators, and community partners.

Education Teaching Children: Bachelor of Education Degree (BEd) - UBCO

The Bachelor of Education provides an understanding of a variety of approaches to teaching and learning and work alongside educators on campus, in schools and in the community. You will participate in practical experience inside and outside the classroom, including two school-based practicums and a 15-week internship.

This program offers a French pathway, which will prepare you for teaching in elementary and secondary schools in BC in the following programs: Core French, French Immersion, and Francophone Program.

This Indigenous Teacher Education Program addresses educational issues pertinent to public and First Nations schools settings where Indigenous children attend school. The first two to three years are offered through a regional field centre so that teacher candidates can remain near their home community to maintain their family and cultural connections. You’ll develop the skills and academic knowledge expected of beginning educators, complete a specialization in Indigenous Education, partake in practicums and field schools, and prepare to teach at the elementary, middle, or secondary school level.

Indigenous Teacher Education Program NITEP Elementary/Middle and Secondary Options (BEd) - UBCV

This 16-month program offers students more than 24 weeks of practical experience in a variety of teaching contexts. Teaching Adolescents: Bachelor of Education Degree (UBCO)

Located in Nelson B.C., the West Kootenay Rural Teacher Education Program (WKTEP) has a strong focus on rural and small school settings, recognizing that they offer educational opportunities for teachers. There is also an emphasis on place-conscious learning with strong ties to local communities and school districts. The West Kootenay Rural Teacher Education Program provides teacher candidates with the opportunity to develop the professional qualities and effective practices for teaching in today’s complex learning environments with a strong focus on community, collaboration, and innovation.

West Kootenay Teacher Education Program: Bachelor of Education Degree (BEd) - UBCV

You'll complete foundational courses in diversity, special education, Indigenous youth and schooling, planning and assessment, reflective practice, and classroom management, as well as subject-specific methods courses. Later, you'll study unit planning and construction, professional development, action research, and more. You'll also complete multiple practicums to put theory into practice. Upon successful completion of the program, you are recommended to the Ministry of Education to receive a B.C. teaching certificate through the Teacher Regulation Branch.

The Bachelor of Education in Elementary Curriculum teaches how children develop, how classrooms work and how to design inclusive learning environments that make a real difference. You’ll graduate prepared to teach with purpose, professionalism and care.

Elementary Curriculum: Bachelor of Education Degree (BEd)

This Bachelor of Education Post-Degree Professional Program (PDPP) in Elementary is for degree holders who want to teach elementary or middle school classes. After a combinaiton of academic and practicum experiences, you’ll graduate with a Bachelor of Education degree and be eligible to apply for a B.C. teaching certificate.

Elementary Post-Degree Professional Program: Bachelor of Education Degree (BEd)

The Bachelor of Education in Indigenous Language Revitalization allows you to expand your Indigenous language proficiency while revitalizing your language in your community. Demonstrate linguistically and culturally grounded teaching strategies. You’ll graduate certified to teach grades K-12 in band-run and public schools in BC. The first two years of this program are delivered in partnership with language communities.

The Bachelor of Education in Indigenous Language Revitalization offered through the Department of Indigenous Education is a community-based, cohort-driven program that is designed for BC Indigenous community members who want to learn their language and become teachers of their language. The Bachelor of Education in Indigenous Language Revitalization is targeted towards those who want to become professional K-12 teachers in hopes of teaching in either a First Nations administrated or public school. Students will continue building their language capacity to ensure they are qualified to teach in an immersion context if desirable. Students enter this program after completing a Diploma in Indigenous Language Revitalization or equivalent coursework approved by the Chair of Indigenous Education. The complete program (including Diploma) is composed of 75.0 units normally taken over 5 academic years.

Indigenous Language Revitalization: Bachelor of Education Degree (BEDILR)

The Indigenous Education post-degree professional program is designed to enhance relational accountabilities with local indigenous people and communities. It provides aspiring teachers (both Indigenous and non-Indigenous) with a relevant, relational, and transformative education designed to foster a deeper understanding of First Nations, Inuit and Métis histories, cultures, and ways of knowing and being.

Indigenous Post-Degree Professional: Bachelor of Education (BEd)

In the Teacher Education Secondary Curriculum Post-Degree Professional Program Bachelor of Education Degree, you'll learn how you can motivate secondary school students to find deeper meaning from the world. After completion of all coursework and a mandatory practicum, you will receive a Bachelor of Education degree (BEd) and will be eligible to apply for a BC teaching certificate.

Secondary: Post-Degree Professional Program: Bachelor of Education Degree (BEd)

The Bachelor of Education program provides you with the fundamentals needed to become teachers at the elementary school level. Throughout the five-year program you will learn diverse teaching strategies and professional development skills to give you the knowledge required to earn your BC teachers certificate and begin your teaching journey. The program has an articulated grounding in the Principles of Teaching and Learning, embedded and extended practica, as well as First Peoples Principles of Learning.

This Bachelor of Education Post-Baccalaureate Degree is a good option for you if you have a university degree and want to become an elementary, middle school or secondary teacher. The program consists of upper-level courses that focus on education theory, teaching methodologies and practice. You will also have three practicum placements as a pre-service teacher. This hands-on experience allows you to practice the skills you learned in the classroom.
