Early childhood educators plan, organize and implement programs for children between the ages of infancy and 12 years. Early childhood educator assistants provide care for infants and preschool- to school-age children under the guidance of early childhood educators. Early childhood educators and assistants lead children in activities to stimulate and develop their intellectual, physical and emotional growth and ensure their security and well-being. They are employed in child-care centres, day-care centres, kindergartens, agencies for exceptional children and other settings where early childhood education services are provided. Supervisors of early childhood educators and assistants are included in this unit group.

Home child care providers care for children on an ongoing or short-term basis. They care for the well-being and physical and social development of children, assist parents with child care and may assist with household duties. They provide care primarily in their own homes or in the children's homes, where they may also reside. They are employed by private households and child-care agencies, or they may be self-employed.

**This program does not accept applications. However, students can apply to the Early Childhood Care and Education Diploma and work towards earning this credential.**

The Early Childhood Care & Education (ECCE) Certificate provides students with the competencies and knowledge required to work with children under the age of five in licensed preschools and childcare centres. Upon successful completion of the ECCE Certificate program, students are eligible to apply for their ECCE Basic Certificate through the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

You'll take courses in child development, guiding young children, family and community, and apply your knowledge in practicums.

The Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) Diploma program is four semesters and spans two academic years.  It is designed to accommodate both full-time and part-time students.  There is an option to opt-out of the Diploma program after successfully completing the 15 courses required and be granted a Coast Mountain College certificate for the ECCE Certificate Program.

The Early Childhood Care and Learning program provides comprehensive practical skills and theoretical understanding in growth and development theory, historical and contemporary early learning, health, safety, and nutrition, and working effectively with parents and coworkers and more. Graduates will also have the option of additional training to specialize as either an infant and toddler educator or special needs educator.

The Early Childhood Education Certificate provides students the necessary skills and knowledge to work with young children and their families in diverse settings. The program uses a play-based approach, with a focus on positive assets and strength-based perspectives. Practicums are designed to give you the opportunity to apply theory into their practice in early childhood settings.

Early Childhood Education Certificate

The Early Childhood Education Certificate is a combination of practical experience and theoretical material, which will give you the skills and knowledge to work with children from newborns to eight years old. You willl learn to observe, assess and guide child development both individually and in groups and understand how to promote health and nutrition, and experience managing a child-care setting. Graduates with an ECE certification can apply for a provincial license to practice as an Early Childhood Educator and work in provincially licensed preschool and child-care centres. You’ll also have the option to complete additional courses to qualify for a Special Needs Certificate and receive your ECE Diploma.

The Indigenous Early Childhood Education (IECE) program provides you with the skills and knowledge to provide quality care and education for young children. The IECE certificate honours Indigenous ways of knowing and being by placing local and traditional child development practices at the center of the program and by preparing Early Childhood Educators to work with children in the community in which they reside.
The IECE certificate program encourages you to examine both the role of the child, family and the educator focusing on concepts of belonging, learning, and sharing to strengthen identity through culture. The program supports the Early Childhood Educator in developing strategies for guiding and caring that support healthy social-emotional development for young children.

Indigenous Early Childhood Education Certificate

The Early Childhood Care and Education Certificate allows you to make a difference in young children's lives by offering quality care and education for their growth and development. You'll specialize your skills by applying theory to pracitce with children aged 30 months to five years in diverse early care and learning environments.

The Early Childhood Education Certificate program prepares you to work with young children in a variety of early learning and care environments. You will acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes necessary to work with children, families and the community in planning enriched programs in daycares, preschools and other early childhood initiatives that focus upon healthy development throughout the early years. Successful completion of this three-semester program satisfies the ECE Registry training requirements for a Certificate to Practice as an Early Childhood Educator (Basic).

The Early Childhood Care and Education (ECCE) Certificate focuses on many facets of early learning and child development, focusing on the needs of children from birth through school age and their families. As part of this certificate program, you will learn how to develop programs and create environments that are child-centred, nurturing and rich with potential for early development. You will be prepared to work with young children and their families in a variety of exciting and rewarding roles. You will be able to participate in the planning and delivery of programs that focus upon healthy child development and develop relationships within the field of early care and learning.

The Inclusive Practices Specialization Certificate focuses on areas of learning including: child development, supporting children’s social skills, programming for individual children, critical reflection, working with a team of educators and other professionals to facilitate inclusion,the ECE’s professional role, and skills to support families.

Certification by the BC Ministry of Education and Child Care allows students to work with young children in an early childhood setting (ages birth to 5 years), under the supervision of a certified Early Childhood Educator.

Certification by the BC Ministry of Education and Child Care provides students with a basic foundation of the knowledge and skills needed to work in early childhood educational settings (ages birth to 5 years). Graduates from this program can work as Early Childhood Educators once they apply for and are granted a certificate from the BC ECE Registry in the Ministry of Education and Child Care.

The Certificate in Early Years Education (EYED) focuses broadly on developing Early Childhood Education (ECE) curricula and the principles of teaching and learning in the early years (preschool to Grade 3).

The Early Childhood Education Certificate is especially designed for those already in the workforce, with core course offerings scheduled during afternoons and evenings. Spread over four semesters, the program equips you with skills in childhood education, communications, and interpersonal relations and includes two practicals that provide a context to apply classroom learning.

After you complete the program, a first aid certificate, and 500 hours of supervised work, you can apply to the Provincial Licensing Board to receive your Early Childhood Educator license.

The Early Childhood Care and Education certificate provides you the knowledge and skills to specialize in the inclusive care and development of children aged 2-6 in licensed early learning settings in British Columbia. You will learn to plan and provide daily experiences that support and promote each child’s physical, emotional, social, communication, cognitive, ethical, and creative lives.
