To practice as a dental assistant in B.C., you must register with the British Columbia College of Oral Health Professionals. Eligibility is achieved through graduation from an accredited dental assisting program and successful completion of the National Dental Assisting Examining Board examinations.

Employment as a dental laboratory assistant may require some work experience.

This instructional program class comprises any program that prepares individuals to provide patient care, take dental radiographs (X-ray photographs), prepare patients and equipment for dental procedures, and discharge office administrative functions under the supervision of dentists and dental hygienists. These programs include courses in medical record keeping, general office duties, reception and patient intake, scheduling, equipment maintenance and sterilization, basic radiography, pre-operative and postoperative patient care and instruction, chairside assisting, taking tooth and mouth impressions, and supervised practice.

Dental Assistant Certificates

Dental assistants assist dentists, dental hygienists and dental therapists during the examination and treatment of patients and perform clerical functions. Dental laboratory assistants assist dental technologists and technicians in preparing and fabricating dentures and other dental devices. Dental assistants work in dentists' offices, community health centres, clinics and in educational institutions. Dental laboratory assistants are employed in dental laboratories.

The Certified Dental Assistant (CDA) Certificate is fast paced, practical, hands-on and simulates the work environment. The program provides practicum experience in a dental office to provide you with hands-on experience to be job-ready when you graduate. The CDA program is fully accredited nationally. You'll learn about becoming a collaborative partner in the delivery of all aspects of dental care. CDA skills include assisting the dentist at chair-side, as well as providing direct client care.

Certified Dental Assistant Certificate

The Dental Assistant Certificate involves collaboration with patients and other healthcare professionals to achieve and maintain optimal oral health and overall health and well-being. CNC Dental Assisting program offers small class sizes and a 1:8 ratio of faculty to students in the clinical setting. The clinic is equipped with 20 dental operatories and 4 radiography rooms with computerized dental stations and digital radiography and record keeping abilities. You will be involved in the dental clinic providing patient-centered oral healthcare care services.

Dental Assistant Certificate

The Dental Assistant Certificate combines face-to-face and online learning practice and clinical based training to prepare you for a career as a Dental Assistant. You must be prepared to attend practical experiences which may take place in communities other than Cranbrook. You are responsible for arranging their own transportation and for travel and living expenses. The program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation of Canada, hence graduates are eligible to write the National Dental Assistant Examining Board exam which allows for registration with the British Columbia College of Oral Health Professionals upon successful completion.

The Certified Dental Assistant Certificate provides you the education, training and experience required by the BC College of Oral Health Professionals (BCCOHP) for registration as a Certified Dental Assistant. You'll learn specific procedures and administrative tasks required to work in a dental office and how to best care for patients. A supervised practicum at the end of the program allows students to practice and gain hands-on experience. Upon graduation, you'll work as a certified dental assistant in dental offices under the supervision of a dentist.

The Certified Dental Assistant Certificate provides you with the opportunities to develop the knowledge, skills, values, and attitudes necessary for employment as a certified dental assistant. This program combines clinical practice with lecture in preparation for a career in private practice, dental clinics, and other public health facilities. In addition to working at the UFV dental clinic, the curriculum includes two practica with local dentistry practices, which provide you with full-time experience in a dental office.This program is accredited by the Commission on Dental Accreditation. Upon completion, you are eligible to write the National Dental Assisting Board examination, which is mandatory for certification and registration with the College of Dental Surgeons of B.C.

Dental Office Receptionist Certificate

The Certified Dental Assisting certificate teaches you the specialized skills and knowledge needed to assist dentists with procedures, provide oral health education, and function as a dental health team member. Upon completing the program, you will be able to safely and competently perform Certified Dental Assistant skills to address patient needs and support the dental team.
