This instructional program class comprises any program that focuses on the analysis of large scale data sources from the interdisciplinary perspectives of applied statistics, computer science, data storage, data representation, data modelling, mathematics, and statistics. These programs include courses in computer algorithms, computer programming, data management, data mining, information policy, information retrieval, machine learning, mathematical modelling, quantitative analysis, statistics, trend spotting, and visual analytics.

This instructional program class comprises any program that prepares individuals to apply data science to generate insights from data and identify and predict trends. These programs include courses in computer databases, computer programming, inference, machine learning, optimization, probability and stochastic models, statistics, strategy, uncertainty quantification, and visual analytics.

Data Science Continuing Education

Survey interviewers contact individuals to gather information for market research, public opinion polls or election and census enumeration. Statistical clerks code and compile interview and other data into reports, lists, directories and other documents. They are employed by market research and polling firms, government departments and agencies, utility companies, contact centres and other establishments. This unit group also includes clerks who observe and record information on traffic flow.

Data entry clerks input coded, statistical, financial and other information into computerized databases, spreadsheets or other templates using a keyboard, mouse, or optical scanner, speech recognition software or other data entry tools. They are employed in the private and public sectors.

Library assistants and clerks issue and receive library materials, sort and shelve books and provide general library information to users. They also perform clerical functions. Library clerks are employed by libraries or other establishments with library services.

The Foundations in Rural Data Science Certificate introduces students to one of today’s fastest-growing fields through a blend of analytical, technical, and place-based learning. This two-term, 30-credit program builds core skills in data science, computer
programming, calculus, statistics, and research methods while connecting coursework to real applications in rural, remote, and
Indigenous community contexts. Students learn how data is collected, cleaned, analyzed, and communicated, and explore how data-driven insights support environmental, community, and scientific decision-making.
The certificate is designed for learners who want to explore data science or prepare for advanced study in pathways such as data
science, computer science, mathematics, and geospatial technologies. Flexible electives allow students to tailor the program to future academic or career goals. Graduates may continue into the Associate of Science Degree, ladder into related Selkirk programs, or transfer to degree-level data science programs at other institutions.
