To work as a correctional officer in Canada, you need to complete the Correctional Training program through Correctional Service Canada. Eligibility is achieved by passing a series of assessments and then successfully completing the program.

This instructional program class comprises any program that prepares individuals to study the theories and principles of correctional science and to function as professional corrections officers and other workers in incarceration facilities.

Criminal Justice Certificates

Correctional service officers guard offenders and detainees and maintain order in correctional institutions and other places of detention. Primary workers develop women offender's correctional plan and work with other service officers in the correctional team. They are employed by federal, provincial and municipal governments. Correctional service officers who are supervisors are included in this unit group.

The Criminal and Social Justice Certificate prepares you for a potential career in the field of criminal or social justice or to further post-secondary education such as a bachelor degree. In this program, you will study theories of human and social behavior, criminal justice system and cultural and institutional roots of crime and deviance; learn about oppression and marginalization and will further their understanding of Indigenous peoples and Indigenous knowledge; and develop effective skills in cross-cultural relations, communication, conflict resolution and crisis intervention.

Criminal and Social Justice Certificate

The Criminal Justice Studies Certificate will increase your knowledge of the structures and processes of the Canadian justice system. You'll learn about policing, corrections, psychology and more and prepare to enter justice-related occupations. If you want to pursue further education, majority of the courses are transferable to other institutions or you can continue into the Criminology Diploma at Douglas College.

Criminal Justice Studies Certificate

The Correctional Studies Certificate is for individuals who are interested in working within the correctional system, and also for students who wish to focus their criminology undergraduate studies on courses that relate to correctional practice and theory. You'll take courses in restorative justice, criminology, sentencing, Indigenous justice, and more.

Correctional Studies Certificate

The Police Studies Certificate is about various aspects of crime, from causes to effects, from policing methods to the criminal justice system. You'll study forensics, cybercrime, offenders, accountability and ethics.
