To work as a border services agent in Canada, you need to complete the Canada Border Services Agency training program. Eligibility is achieved by taking an assessment test and, if selected, completing all the program requirements.

This instructional program class comprises any program that prepares individuals to perform duties associated with managing revenue-based customs, traffic, or transportation services, such as control of domestic and international traffic, toll roads and waterways, and to assist in the dispatch and control of fleet-based traffic for businesses and public services. These programs include courses in record keeping; preparation of customs and transportation documentation; operation of communications equipment; basic transportation operations management; tariffs, rates and fares; revenue collection and change-making; and interpretation of customs or transportation regulations and related legislation, policies, and procedures.

Border Management Programs

Border services, customs, and immigration officers administer and enforce laws and regulations related to immigration, customs and border crossing. They are employed by government agencies.

 The Micro-certificate in Modern Border Management: (Im)migration and Mobility examines the politics and policies of cross border regions and transboundary people, the complex global migration system and key and innovative aspects of border law. The program engages with scholars, industry experts, and civil society practitioners on contemporary challenges associated with cross border management. 

Modern Border Management: (Im)migration and Mobility Micro-certificate

 The Micro-certificate in Modern Border Management: Law of Borders and Cross-Border Laws explores the juridical complexity of borders through varying legal disciplines such as the history of law, public law, international law, European law and transnational law. In this program, you will be introduced to key and innovative aspects of border law through discussions of territorial delimitations, border singularities, international disputes, border controls and the effects of the EU and globalization on contemporary borders. Practical exercises in each session will support and enhance your learning.

Modern Border Management: Law of Borders and Cross-Border Laws Micro-Certificate

 This program will deepen your knowledge about the regulatory environment of trading networks, the practical trade applications and concerns related to artificial intelligence and machine learning and the challenges and opportunities in managing cross border regions. The courses in the program are facilitated by professionals from the Canada Border Services Agency, the Pacific North West Economic Region, and the World Customs Organization, as well as leading academics in the field of border studies.
