The Cinema Studies Bachelor of arts is ideal f you have a keen interest and critical mind for the screen arts, and you want to join a thriving community of students and scholars, Film Studies could be the program for you. You can study a full range of topics that cover most of the world’s cinema movements and periods.

Students must be admitted into Bachelor of Arts to pursue this program. 

1. High school graduation or equivalent

2. English 12 and English 11 or their equivalents (70% in one of them)

3. Minimum six academic/non-academic Grade 12 courses (recommended)

4. Pre-Calculus 11 or Foundations of Math 12 or equivalent 

5. Any Science 11 or Science 12 course or equivalent 

6. A Language 11 or Waiver (includes all second language courses, excludes introductory language 11 courses)

7. Grades presented in all relevant academic Grade 11 and Grade 12 courses that fall under these subject categories* will be looked at:
    - Language Arts
    - Mathematics & Computation
    - Second Languages 
    - Social Studies 
    - Visual and Performing Arts 
        - *Note: There is no minimum number of courses required for admission, but you are encouraged to challenge yourself with a substantial number of courses that are relevant to your intended area of study.

1. Students may declare a Major, Minor or Honours within the Bachelor of Arts degree. While coursework usually starts in the first-year, the Major can be declared after either 27 or 54 undergraduate credits depending on the program. Admission to the Honours program requires an application and department approval.

Admission Advice

Applications must be submitted for most programs by January for September entry. Early application is recommended. Confirm dates with UBCV.
Exceptions of certain programs are available on UBCV Vancouver Academic Calendar 2023/24.
