The Veterinary Technology Diploma trains individuals for employment as porfessionals in the field of veterniary medicine. Ideal for students who are already working in a veterinary clinical setting.

1. High school graduation or equivalent
2. English 12 (C+) or equivalent
3. Foundations of Math 11 (C+) or equivalent
4. Biology 12 or equivalent
5. Biology 11 (C+) or equivalent

Note: Anatomy and Physiology 12 (formerly Biology 12) or BIOL 0600 is strongly recommended, given that in the first semester, students must have a working knowledge of animal anatomy to perform physical examinations including eye and ear exams on live patients, under the supervision of a clinical mentor. For patient safety, tasks such as understanding anatomical locations and basic physiology must be developed prior to the program to ensure student success.

Academic Admission Requirement

1. Canadian Citizenship or Permanent Resident Status
2. Three reference forms
3. Completed Clinic Affiliation Package, verifying:

-You are an employee of a CVMA (Canadian Veterinary Medical Association) accredited mixed or small animal veterinary clinic and that you will be working for a minimum of 260 paid hours per semester
-Health & Safety awareness form
-Orientation questionnaire
-Up-to-date vaccination record, including rabies

Additional Academic Admission Requirement

2. You should have an interest in working with and caring for animals. This includes such areas as farms, SPCA, wildlife refuges, or any other animal oriented facility.

3. Any pre-requisite courses in progress must be completed with an official transcript submitted before November 1 of the year prior to the January program start date.

4. Competition for admission to the Veterinary Technology Open Learning program is extremely intensive. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission into the program.

Application for admission must be submitted by: October 15.

Note: completed applications which are received before the application deadline may be considered for early review.

The supporting document deadline, including high school and post-secondary transcripts, is the same date as the application deadline or within 10 days of submission of the application or whichever is later.

This program has one intake each year: January.

The application deadline is September for the program that starts in January. Any prerequisite courses in progress for program admission must be completed with an official transcript submitted before November of the year prior to the January program start date.
