The Bachelor of Legal Studies (Paralegal) Degree provides courses in important areas of the law, including criminal law, family law, contracts & legal documents, torts, legal research, litigation, wills and estates, insurance law and real estate. You will hone your written communication skills and legal terminology to follow all legal service standards before your practicum field placement. You'll also choose from a range of electives, a few options being constitutional law, arts and entertainment law, animal law, Indigenous People and the law, environmental law and cannabis law.

1. High school graduation or equivalent
2. Grade 11 and 12 (80% average based on):
    - English 12 or equivalent
    - Minimum four other academic courses

1. Resume
2. Short handwritten essay
3. Two letters of reference

Additional Academic Admission Requirement



1. All of:
    - Essay - (three pages, double-spaced) entitled, “Why I Want to Become a Paralegal”
    - Letters of reference - preferably from high school teachers and/or non-family members who work in a business or professional setting
    - The School of Legal Studies will review applications once the application package is complete
    - The applicant may be called for an interview if they meet the admission requirements

2. English is the language of instruction at CapU. All applicants are required to demonstrate competence in the English language prior to admission. If English is not your primary language, you must meet the English language requirements for admission.

3. Current Grade 12 students can be conditionally accepted based on final Grade 11 grades or interim Grade 12 grades. Students can upload proof of grades (e.g. unofficial transcripts, copies of report cards) through EducationPlannerBC when applying to Capilano University. Final acceptance will be based on high school graduation and having met the program specific requirements.
    - Note: All B.C. applicants must release their grades to CapU via the BC Ministry of Education at Student Transcripts Services (STS). 

4. In addition to the program admission requirements, there are also prerequisites for each course that are listed within the course description. For example, English 12 (67%) or equivalent is required prior to registering an English 100 level course.
