1) Program Admission Requirements

Academic

1. English
One of:

  • English 10 or equivalent
  • IELTS Academic (5.5 overall, with no land less than 5.0)
  • TOEFL iBT internet-based (68 overall)
  • Canadian Language Benchmark (Listening 7, Speaking 7, Reading 7, and Writing 6)
2. Math 10 or equivalent 

Non-Academic
  • Food Safe Level 1 Certificate (Upon acceptance)
  • Able to physically handle: seafood including but not limited to fish & shellfish, beef, lamb, pork, all types of poultry, all types of game, all dairy products, and all associated by-products required to meet the program outcomes. Any other known food allergies must be disclosed.

Admission Advice

1. International applicants must be 17 years of age or older or a graduate of a secondary school. (Some exceptions may apply)

2. You are recommended to possess:

  • ability to communicate effectively in written and spoken English
  • Physical condition and stamina to meet the demands of the culinary industry (for example, lifting 50lbs.)
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time (5 hours or more)
  • Good motor skill coordination
  • Ability to multi-task, with strong and efficient organizational and time management skills
  • Strong reading, comprehension and study skills
  • Work independently
  • Maturity
  • Interpersonal communication skills
  • Some creativity is an asset

You must meet the admission requirements of your intended program before your name is added to a waitlist or registered in a program.

BC Transfer Student

Students transfering between post-secondary institutions in B.C. may refer to the BC Transfer Guide to find program transfer credits or BC Articulation Handbook for entrance requirement equivalencies.

If you have prior post-secondary education that you want to transfer to VCC, you must make a formal request through the Registrar's Office by completing an Approval for Transfer Credit form and attaching all required documents. For more information call 604.871.7000.
