1) Program Admission Requirements

Academic (minimum grade in bracket)

1. Completed four Transition to BScN courses (offered by VCC Continuing Studies) in the past 24 months.

2. English

One of:

  • VCC ENGL 1100 and 1200 (C+)
  • VCC ENGL 1101/1001 and 1102 (C+)

3. Biology (in last 5 years)

  • VCC BIOL 1120 and 1220 - Human Anatomy and Physiology (C+)
  • equivalent courses
4. Two semesters (six credits) of a humanities course such as Psychology, Sociology, Anthropology, or Philosophy (C+)

Non-Academic

  • be a Practical Nurse (holding a current BC practicing license)
  • worked to full scope of practice for a minimum of six months or 900 hours, and within the last five years, as verified by a letter from their employers a current CPR for Health Professional certificate
  • current CPR-C certificate
  • be properly fitted for a respiratory mask
  • submit a successful Criminal Record Check
  • a negative TB test
  • up to date immunizations

Admission Advice

1. It's recommended that you have:

  • a caring attitude;
  • a sincere interest in people of all ages who require all levels of care. This includes individuals who are: mentally or physically disabled, experiencing life threatening situations, confused or requiring rehabilitation;
  • good command of oral and written English;
  • good manual dexterity;
  • a basic foundation in mathematical calculations of decimals, fractions and metric conversions.

2. It is also important that you are able to adjust to early morning and evening practicum shifts and to a variety of clinical settings and locations within the Metro Vancouver area.

3. Have access to a vehicle and a laptop.

General Admission Requirements (All Students)

English Language Requirement - Applicants must have proficiency in English at a level suitable for their desired program.

BC Secondary School (or equivalent)

You must meet the admission requirements of your intended program before your name is added to a waitlist or registered in a program.

BC Transfer Student

If you have prior post-secondary education that you want to transfer to VCC you must make a formal request through the Registrar's Office by completing an Approval for Transfer Credit form and attaching all required documents. For more information call 604.443.8411.

Mature Student

You must be at least 18 years old (unless you have graduated from Secondary School) to meet the general admission requirement for VCC. In addition, specific program admission requirements must also be met.
