1) Program Admission Requirements

Admission for BC High School graduates:

Academic

1. All of:

  • English 11 or English 11 First Peoples
  • Social Studies 11
  • three of: Foundations of Math 11 or Pre-Calculus 11, an approved Science 11, an approved Language 11, an approved Fine Arts 11
  • English 12 or English 12 First Peoples
  • three additional approved academic 12 courses
Non-Academic

Admission Advice

1. For a list of approved Grade 11 & 12 courses click here.

2. If you are transferring from other universities, colleges or art schools, the application process is generally the same as outlined above for secondary school students. You can check out the Visual Arts website for full details.


3. Transfer credit will be assigned as listed in the BC Transfer Guide or evaluated as necessary. You are not normally admitted into third- and fourth-year studio courses unless your outside elective requirements for first and second years have been met.

Applicants also have to satisfy UVic's institution admission requirements as listed below.

English Language Requirements

Summary

One of the following (minimum scores):

  • 86% on the BC English 12 provincial exam within the last three years
  • 86% in English 12 in another Canadian province within the last three years
  • Level 6 on the Language Proficiency Index (LPI)
  • A score of 4 on the Advanced Placement Exam in English Language and Composition
  • A score of 4 on IB Higher Level English
  • 1.5 units of transferable university level English credits
  • A degree from an accredited English speaking university

If you do not meet one of these requirements, you must write the Language Proficiency Index to determine placement in an appropriate English course

For students directly entering an undergraduate program after high school, admission is based on four academic courses.

English Language Requirement - You must have proficiency in English at a level suitable for your desired program.
