Introductory Note: To enter the Bachelor of Music Degree you must qualify for admission to UVic and also meet the School of Music's entrance requirements.

Admission for BC High School graduates:

Academic

1. All of:

  • English 11
  • Social Studies 11
  • three of: Foundations of Math 11 or Pre-Calculus 11, an approved Science 11, an approved Language 11, an approved Fine Arts 11
  • English 12 or English 12 First Peoples
  • three additional approved academic 12 courses

Non-Academic (to satisfy the School of Music's entrance requirements)

  • participate in an audition
  • submit two letters of reference from qualified musicians

Admission Advice

1. The School of Music's admission requirements can be completed in a one-day visit to the campus. Auditions are normally held in February for entry the following September.

2. If an in-person audition is not possible you may qualify for entry based on a high-quality DVD recording. However, it is strongly recommended that you attend one of the Spring audition dates whenever possible.

English Language Requirements

Summary

One of the following (minimum scores):

  • 86% on the BC English 12 provincial exam within the last three years
  • 86% in English 12 in another Canadian province within the last three years
  • Level 6 on the Language Proficiency Index (LPI)
  • A score of 4 on the Advanced Placement Exam in English Language and Composition
  • A score of 4 on IB Higher Level English
  • 1.5 units of transferable university level English credits
  • A degree from an accredited English speaking university

If you do not meet one of these requirements, you must write the Language Proficiency Index to determine placement in an appropriate English course
