1) Program Admission Requirements

Academic/Non-Academic

There are three different admission categories:

A. Year 1 Admission from High School:

1. At least a 80% average in:

  • English 11 or English 11 First Peoples
  • Pre-Calculus 11
  • an approved Science 11 course
  • Social Studies 11
  • English 12 or English 12 First Peoples
  • Pre-Calculus 12
  • two approved academic Grade 12 courses
  • Submit a supplemental application

B. Year 2 Admission

  • 6 units of appropriate course work with at least a C+ average in two of the required courses
  • At least a B- average in your most recent 12 credits
  • Submit a supplemental application

C. Year 3 (Direct Entry)

  • 30 units of appropriate course work with at least a C+ in three of the required courses.
  • At least a B- average in your most recent 12 credits
  • Submit a supplemental application

2) Institution Admission Requirements

Applicants also have to satisfy UVic's institution admission requirements as listed below.

English Language Requirements

Summary

One of the following (minimum scores):

  • 86% on the BC English 12 provincial exam within the last three years
  • 86% in English 12 in another Canadian province within the last three years
  • Level 6 on the Language Proficiency Index (LPI)
  • A score of 4 on the Advanced Placement Exam in English Language and Composition
  • A score of 4 on IB Higher Level English
  • 1.5 units of transferable university level English credits
  • A degree from an accredited English speaking university

If you do not meet one of these requirements, you must write the Language Proficiency Index to determine placement in an appropriate English course

General Admission Requirements (All Students)

For students directly entering an undergraduate program after high school, admission is based on four academic courses.

English Language Requirement - You must have proficiency in English at a level suitable for your desired program.
