Application Deadline Advice

Applications can be submitted after October 1 for entry the following September. Qualified applicants are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Application before January 31 for the following September is recommended.

1) Program Admission Requirements

1A. Students who hold a private pilot licence before entering the first year of the degree will be required to:
  • enroll and successfully complete Aviation 161 (Private Pilot Theory) in the first semester of the program
  • complete a simulator evaluation based on three hours dual instruction and two hours solo practice in the first semester of the program
  • completed the private pilot flight test within six months before entering the program or completed the private pilot flight test within one year, and at least 10 hours flying time within six months before the first day of classes in September or complete a flight evaluation with Coastal Pacific Aviation or designate
  • complete a six-to-eight hour continuation flying course during the first year of the program

OR

1B. Students who hold a private pilot license and are eligible to enter the second year of the degree program must have completed:

  • the Canadian private pilot flight test within six months before entering the program or completed the private pilot flight test within one year with at least 10 hours flying time within the six months before the first day of classes. If you do not meet these requirements you must complete a flight evaluation with Coastal Pacific Aviation or designate.
  • completed the private pilot written exam within 12 months before the first day of classes or achieve at least 60% on an entrance exam equivalent to the private pilot written exam
  • at least six to eight appropriate university-level courses that are transferable to the four-year degree program

PLUS

2A. Secondary School Graduates also require:

Academic (minimum grade needed in bracket)

1. High school graduation or equivalent 

2. Meet the prerequisite for MATH 141

3. Meet the prerequisite for CMNS 125

4. Physics 11 or equivalent (C-)

Note: Accounting 11 or 12, Physics 12 , and a second language course are recommended.

Non-Academic

  • current Transport Canada I medical certification
  • satisfy an entrance evaluation which includes an interview, qualifying exam, and an assessment of references

OR

2B. UFV/CPA AVIATION DIPLOMA GRADUATES must:

a) have completed UFV's Aviation Diploma program in the last five years, including the following courses or equivalents:

  • STATS 106
  • PHYS 101 or PHYS 111
  • Five other courses which satisfy the BBA (Aviation) program requirements

b) have a cumulative grade point average of at least 2.67 (B-) calculated separately for academic and flight-related courses, and no courses in the diploma with less than a "C" grade.

c) Meet the prerequisite for MATH 141

d) have current Transport Canada Category I medical certification

e) satisfy an entrance evaluation which includes an interview, a qualifying exam, and an assessment of references


 

2) Institution Admission Requirements

Applicants also have to satisfy UFV's institution admission requirements as listed below.

English Language Requirements

Summary

If English is not your first language, you must have one of the following to enter full time academic study (minimum score):

  • Two years of study and graduation from an English-language secondary school
  • Completion of a degree, diploma, or two years of study with a 2.00 CGPA at an English language post-secondary institution recognized by UFV
  • A C+ grade in English 12, English Literature 12, English 12 First Peoples, IB English A (Standard or Higher Level) or AP English
  • A TOEFL score of 88 (internet based),
  • A TOEFL score of 570 (paper based) or 320 (computer based) with a 4.0 TWE (essay) score
  • An IELTS score of 6.5 with a minimum band score of 6.0
  • A UFV Composition Placement Test score of 48
  • A CAEL score of 70
  • A Cambridge score of a C
  • A CanTEST score of 4.5 with a writing score of 4.0
  • A MELAB score of 85
  • A LPI score of 30 (Level 5)
  • A UFV English as a second language assessment result equivalent to the completion of 80 level ESL writing and grammar
  • Completion of any course or test score with grades that meet the prerequisites for ENGL 105, ENGL 120, CMNS 125 or CMNS 155
  • A C- grade in a first year English or Communications course at UFV
  • A C grade in ENGL 099 or CMNS 099
  • A C+ grade in ENGL 081, ENGL 091 or ESL WG84
  • An Accuplacer Reading Comprehension score of 80 and an Accuplacer WritePlacer score of 6

Beyond program admission requirements, you should also be aware of UFV's English language entrance proficiency requirement.

BC Secondary School (or equivalent)

Students must meet the academic requirements of their intended program (detailed within the program admission requirements section for UFV programs within Education Planner).

Many programs require students to have BC secondary school graduation or equivalent to meet entrance requirements. Complete program admission requirements for all UFV programs are detailed in Education Planner.

Out-of-Province

Students must meet the academic requirements of their intended program (detailed within the program admission requirements section for UFV programs within Education Planner).

Many programs require applicants to have the equivalent of BC Secondary school graduation to meet entrance requirements. To determine the equivalency of BC secondary school graduation from other parts of Canada please click here.

 

 

BC Transfer Student

Mature Student

Post-secondary programs at UFV normally require BC secondary school graduation (or equivalent) for admission. However, some programs accept mature students without secondary school graduation. Each program has specific admission requirements in place to ensure students have a reasonable opportunity to succeed. If mature student entry is available for a program, the requirements and minimum age will be stated. These program admission requirements are outlined for all of UFV's programs in Education Planner.

 

 

International Student

International applicants must have completed the equivalent of Canadian Grade 12 (or near-equivalent standing) plus specific program prerequisites for admission to any UFV career, technical or academic program. In addition, minimum English requirements must also be met.
