Application Deadline Advice

The application deadline is January 31. If this deadline falls on a weekend or a statutory holiday, the application deadline will be extended to the next working day.

Applications are accepted for the following year’s September intake between October 1 and January 31. The supporting document deadline, (including high school transcripts, post-secondary transcripts, and the Letter of Introduction), is the same date as the application deadline or within 10 days of submission of the application or whichever is later.

Academic (minimum grade needed in bracket)

1. One of:

  • high school graduation or equivalent
  • mature student status (be at least 19 years old)

2. English

One of: 

  • English Studies 12 (73%)
  • English First Peoples 12 (73%)
  • out-of-province equivalent (73%)
  • Language Proficiency Index (LPI) test (level 5 on composition with at least 70% on all other categories in last two years)
  • ENGL 0600 (C+)
  • ESAL 0570 (C+) and 0580 (C+)
  • Acceptable result on TRU English Assessment
  • equivalent

3. Math

One of:

  • Foundations of Math 12 (67%)
  • Pre-Calculus 12 (67%)
  • MATH 0610 (67%)
  • equivalent 

4. Chemistry

One of:

One of:

  • Anatomy & Physiology 12 (67%)
  • Biology 12 (67%)
  • BIOL 0600 (67%)

6. One additional Science 11 or Science 12

Note: TRU's BIOL 0500, CHEM 0600, PHYS 0500 or 0600 and SINC 0500 (Foundations of Science) also meets this requirement.

Non-Academic

1. A two-page letter of introduction (A brief personal history, including health care related experiences, reasons for choosing nursing, and positive attributes the applicant may bring to the program and nursing profession)

2. Provide the following after acceptance:

  • proof of Canadian citizenship or landed immigrant status
  • updated immunization schedule
  • CPR Level C Certificate
  • Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS) Certificate
  • BCCNP - Self Assessment of Requisite Skills and Abilities
  • Criminal Record Check  

Admission Advice

1. Entry to this program is very competitive. A selective admission process is used to determine admission.

2. Kamloops campus: The BScN program is offered on the Kamloops campus yearly every September with an 80 seat capacity.

Williams Lake campus: Williams Lake offers the first two years of the BScN program every other year. Students then transfer to the Kamloops campus to complete the third and fourth years of the BScN.

English Language Requirements

Summary

For students whose first language is not English and wish to enter academic programs without attending ESL courses, you must provide one of the following (minimum scores):

  • TOEFL iBT score of 88 overall, with no section below 20
  • TOEFL paper-based 570 overall, with a 4.5 on the test of written English
  • IELTS score of 6.5, with no bands below 6.0
  • MELAB score of 81
  • CanTEST score of 4.5 with no component below 4.0
  • CAEL score of 70, with no subset below 60

General Admission Requirements (All Students)

English Language Skills - You must have adequate English language skills to participate in your intended program of study.

BC Secondary School (or equivalent)

You must meet the program-specific admission requirements of your intended program. To qualify for admission to the Bachelor of Business/Arts/Science degree program, you will need to have completed BC Grade 12 (or equivalent).

 

Out-of-Province

You must meet the program-specific admission requirements of your intended program. To qualify for admission to the Bachelor of Business/Arts/Science degree program, you will need to have completed BC Grade 12 (or equivalent).

 

BC Transfer Student

If you have previous education or training, you may be eligible for credit toward your TRU program. For details on Transfer Credit, please check here.

Mature Student

If you do not meet the admission requirements for your intended program it's possible to gain entry through mature student status. To be classified as a mature student you must be at least 19 years old and have been out of school for at least two years. In such cases the grade level requirement (eg -Grade 10, Grade 12) will be waived however individual course prerequisites must still be met (eg-English 10, English 12).

Special Note: It's possible to make up course prerequisites for your intended program through TRU.
