Academic (minimum grade needed in bracket)

1. High school graduation or equivalent.

2. English

One of:

  • English 12 (73% grade in last five years)
  • English 12 First Peoples (73% grade in last five years)
  • Language Proficiency Index (LPI) test (level 5)
  • ENGL 0600 (C+)
  • ESAL 0570 and ESAL 0580 (C+)

3. Pre-calculus 12 (73%) or equivalent

4. Chemistry 11 (73%) or equivalent. Chemistry 12 is highly recommended

5. Physics (73%) or equivalent

6. Following courses are also recommended:

  • Calculus 12
  • Drafting 12
  • Computing or Information Technology course involving computer programming and problem solving experience with high level languages such as Java, C/C++, or Visual Basic.
Admission Advice

1. Admission is competitive based on grades in grade 11 and 12 prerequisite courses.

2. After acceptance you must attend one of several pre-registration orientation sessions in May and June to select courses and be registered in the program.

English Language Requirements


For students whose first language is not English and wish to enter academic programs without attending ESL courses, you must provide one of the following (minimum scores):

  • A TOEFL score of 88 (internet based) with no section below 20 or 570 (paper based) with a 4.5 on the test of written English
  • An IELTS score of 6.5 with no bands below a 6
  • A Language Proficiency Index score of Level 6
  • A MELAB score of 81
  • A CanTEST score of 4.5 with no component below a 4
  • A CAEL score of 70 with no subset below 60

English Language Skills - You must have adequate English language skills to participate in your intended program of study.

BC Secondary School (or equivalent)

You must meet the admission requirements of your intended program. To qualify for admission to the Bachelor of Business/Arts/Science degree program you will need to have completed BC Grade 12 (or equivalent).

Mature Student

If you do not meet the admission requirements for your intended program it's possible to gain entry through mature student status. To be classified as a mature student you must be at least 19 years old and have been out of school for at least two years. In such cases the grade level requirement (eg -Grade 10, Grade 12) will be waived however individual course prerequisites must still be met (eg-English 10, English 12).

Special Note: It's possible to make up course prerequisites for your intended program through TRU.

Inter-Institutional Block Arrangements

Graduates are able to enter the second year of Engineering degree programs at SFU, UBC and UVic. In addition, graduates of the TRU Electrical and Computer Engineering Transfer Program are eligible to enter the third year of UBC's Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering degree program.

Final Notes: Minimum grade point average and other requirements may apply. All transfer requirements should be confirmed with advising personnel at the intended institution.
