1) Program Admission Requirements

Academic (minimum grade needed in bracket)

A. First Year Entry

1. One of:

  • high school graduation or equivalent
  • mature student status (be at least 19 years old)

2. English

One of:

  • English Studies 12 (73%)
  • English First Peoples 12 (73%)
  • out-of-province equivalent (73%)
  • Language Proficiency Index (LPI) test (level 5 on composition with at least 70% on all other categories in last two years)
  • ENGL 0600 (C+)
  • ESAL 0570 (C+) and 0580 (C+)
  • TRU English Assessment
  • equivalent course

3. Math

One of:

  • Pre-calculus 12 (C+ in the last two years)
  • Foundations of Math 12 (C+ in the last two years)
  • MATH 0160 (C+ in the last two years)
  • equivalent course
B. Third Year Entry

1. 48 TRU credits (or equivalent) with specific course work in Computing, English and other non-Computing courses:
  • Core Requirements (36 credits; see program website)
  • 8 computing courses (COMP 1130, COMP 1230, COMP 2130, COMP 2210 COMP 2230, COMP 2680, COMP 2920, COMP 2160 or equivalents)
  • 2 math courses (MATH 1700, MATH 1650) (6 credits)
  • 2 English (ENGL 1100, CMNS 1290 or equivalents, or CMNS 1810 or equivalents)
  • 4 non-computing courses, one of which must be outside of science
  • 4 general electives 
Admission Advice

1. If you do not met the requirements but are high school graduates or mature students, you may be conditionally admitted to the Program. If needed, you can begin your studies while upgrading your English and/or Math.

English Language Requirements

Summary

For students whose first language is not English and wish to enter academic programs without attending ESL courses, you must provide one of the following (minimum scores):

  • TOEFL iBT score of 88 overall, with no section below 20
  • TOEFL paper-based 570 overall, with a 4.5 on the test of written English
  • IELTS score of 6.5, with no bands below 6.0
  • MELAB score of 81
  • CanTEST score of 4.5 with no component below 4.0
  • CAEL score of 70, with no subset below 60

General Admission Requirements (All Students)

English Language Skills - You must have adequate English language skills to participate in your intended program of study.

BC Secondary School (or equivalent)

You must meet the program-specific admission requirements of your intended program. To qualify for admission to the Bachelor of Business/Arts/Science degree program, you will need to have completed BC Grade 12 (or equivalent).

 

Out-of-Province

You must meet the program-specific admission requirements of your intended program. To qualify for admission to the Bachelor of Business/Arts/Science degree program, you will need to have completed BC Grade 12 (or equivalent).

 

BC Transfer Student

If you have previous education or training, you may be eligible for credit toward your TRU program. For details on Transfer Credit, please check here.

Mature Student

If you do not meet the admission requirements for your intended program it's possible to gain entry through mature student status. To be classified as a mature student you must be at least 19 years old and have been out of school for at least two years. In such cases the grade level requirement (eg -Grade 10, Grade 12) will be waived however individual course prerequisites must still be met (eg-English 10, English 12).

Special Note: It's possible to make up course prerequisites for your intended program through TRU.
