Applications may be submitted up to 12 months before the program start date. Qualified applicants are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Early application is recommended.

Academic (minimum grade needed in bracket)

1. High school graduation or equivalent

2. English

One of:

  • English 12 (C)
  • Language Proficiency Index (LPI) test (level 4)
3. Complete the College Readiness Tool Reading, Writing and Math assessment (satisfactory score)

Non-Academic

  • resume

  • 30 hours of paid or volunteer social services work
  • A driver's license is recommended

English Language Requirements

Summary

If English is not your first language, you must provide one of the following (minimum scores):

  • Completion of English 12 or equivalent
  • A C+ grade in advanced core courses in the Selkirk College English Language Program and Provincial Level English 51
  • A TOEFL score of 213 (computer) or 80 (internet)
  • A EIKEN grade of pre-1
  • An IELTS score of 6.0
  • A Language Proficiency Index of 4

You must meet the general admission requirements of the college as well as the specific admission requirements of your intended program.

BC Secondary School (or equivalent)

If you have graduated from a BC Secondary School (or equivalent) you are eligible for general admission to Selkirk. You must also meet any admission requirements of your intended program.

Out-of-Province

If you have graduated from Secondary School (or equivalent) you are eligible for general admission to Selkirk. You must also meet any admission requirements of your intended program.

Mature Student

If you are at least 19 years old at the time of registration you are eligible for general admission to Selkirk. You must also meet any admission requirements of your intended program.

Other Student (including Special Consideration)

Applicants who do not qualify for admission to Selkirk in any of the other admission categories may still qualify for general admission in one of the following two ways:

  • if you are under 19 years old but who have the written recommendation of their secondary school principal; or
  • if you are considered by the Admissions and Standards Committee to be capable of succeeding in college courses based on their particular circumstances.

You must also meet the specific admission requirements of your intended program.

Block Transfer within Selkirk

Graduates may advance to Selkirk's Human Services Diploma.

Special Note: Completion of the Human Services Diploma may enable entry into:

  • third-year studies in the Bachelor of Social Work Degree at UVic, OC, TRU (formerly UCC);
  • third-year studies in the Bachelor of Child and Youth Care Degree at UVic; UFV or VIU.

Final Note: Minimum grade point average and other requirements may apply. All transfer requirements should be confirmed with advising personnel within the institution.
