Automotive Painters or Automotive Refinishing Technicians are responsible for painting and refinishing cars, trucks and buses. Work is commonly performed as a result of a collision. However, restoration work or custom-design paint jobs are also part of this occupation.

The program combines technical and work-based training. It generally takes two years to complete.

The technical training totals four weeks. This block of training is normally delivered through an ITA approved training institution. Sometimes it may also be met through approved training models (distance education, part-time) and/or a level challenge exam.

The work-based training totals 3360 hours. Based on a 30-hour work week this involves 112 weeks of training.
