Applications may be submitted starting on November 1 for entry to the following Fall semester, January 16 for the following Winter semester, and February 1 for the following Summer semester. Early application is strongly recommended.

  • Criminal Record Check no more than three months before their date of admission. 
  • current immunizations are strongly recommended

Admission Advice 

1. You are advised to attend the program orientation session. It is normally held sometime in the spring.

2. Admission priority is based on the following:

  • relevant experience such as "chairside" dental assisting experience in BC or equivalent, validated by submission of the required reference form by the employer = two points;
  • relevant experience as a dental receptionist or dental laboratory technician/assistant validated by submission of the required reference form by the employer = four points (maximum two points per position);
  • completion of Okanagan College's DENT 001 (Introduction to Dental Assisting), a Dental Reception program, or partial or full completion of another Dental Assisting program, validated by official transcripts = two points (maximum one point per certificate or DENT 001);
  • demonstration of prior interest in the program, validated by completing the application process the preceding year at OC = one point.


2) Institution Admission Requirements

Applicants also have to satisfy OC's institution admission requirements as listed below.

English Language Requirements


If English is not your first language, you must submit one of the following (minimum scores):

  • A TOEFL score of 550 (paper based), 213 (computer based), or 79 (internet based)
  • An academic IELTS overall band score of 6.5
  • A Okanagan College English Language Assessment (OCELA) of level 4
  • 70% in each of  EAPD 040, EAPW 040 and EAPR 040 for admission to a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree
  • 60% in each of EAPD 040, EAPW 040 and EAPR 040 for admission to Arts, Science, Business Administration Diploma, Commercial Aviation, Advanced Culinary Arts, Computer Information Systems, and Engineering Technology programs
  • 70% in English 12 or equivalent for Business programs
  • 60% in English 12 or equivalent for Arts, Science, Engineering Technology, and most diploma programs
  • 50% in an English literature or composition course at a recognized university or college in Canada
  • Level 5 on the Language Proficiency Index for Business, or Level 4 for Arts, Science, technology and most diploma programs
  • A degree or diploma from an accredited institution where English is the language of instruction
