1) Program Admission Requirements

Academic (minimum grade needed in bracket)

One of:

  • be at least 19 years old 
  • be at least 18 years old and have been out of the public school system for at least a year 
  • school leaving certificate
  • referral by a high school principal or counsellor and approval of the Adult Academic and Career Preparation Underage Committee
  • interview with the Instructor
  • letter of reference from a work-related source (eg - employment counsellor, work experience coordinator, teacher, employer) that comments on your suitability for the program

Admission Advice

1. At the interview the instructor will determine eligibility based on:

  • ability to learn and participate in a group setting;
  • emotional stability (no behavioural or emotional problems that would significantly interfere with the learning or safety of others);
  • strong commitment to learning;
  • identified cognitive disability;
  • ability to make routine decisions independently;
  • basic literacy skills;
  • ability to use public transportation or arrange alternate transportation;
  • desire to explore vocational options;
  • be motivated to participate in the program.

2. Evidence of the above requirements must include at least two of the following:

  • psycho-educational assessment;
  • records of participation in special or supported programs in a public institution or school;
  • documentation from a physician or medical specialist;
  • a referral from Community Living BC (CLBC);
  • a recommendation from an instructor in AACP, another college, or secondary school;
  • a referral from a community agency.

3. It's possible to be admitted without appropriate documentation. In such cases, continued registration and attendance is dependent on your achievement of specific educational and behavioural standards outlined in an individual performance contract.

Applicants also have to satisfy OC's institution admission requirements as listed below.

English Language Requirements


If English is not your first language, you must submit one of the following (minimum scores):

  • A TOEFL score of 550 (paper based), 213 (computer based), or 79 (internet based)
  • An academic IELTS overall band score of 6.5
  • A Okanagan College English Language Assessment (OCELA) of level 4
  • 70% in each of  EAPD 040, EAPW 040 and EAPR 040 for admission to a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree
  • 60% in each of EAPD 040, EAPW 040 and EAPR 040 for admission to Arts, Science, Business Administration Diploma, Commercial Aviation, Advanced Culinary Arts, Computer Information Systems, and Engineering Technology programs
  • 70% in English 12 or equivalent for Business programs
  • 60% in English 12 or equivalent for Arts, Science, Engineering Technology, and most diploma programs
  • 50% in an English literature or composition course at a recognized university or college in Canada
  • Level 5 on the Language Proficiency Index for Business, or Level 4 for Arts, Science, technology and most diploma programs
  • A degree or diploma from an accredited institution where English is the language of instruction
