  • resume and a written statement (between 300 and 500 words long) outlining career goals and reasons for seeking entry to the program
  • documentation of at least 45 hours of satisfactory work or volunteer experience in the Early Childhood Education field
  • Criminal Record Check
  • immunizations and TB test

Admission Advice

1. A successful Criminal Record Check is required for anyone working with children in a child care centre. Certain crimes make practicum placement, graduation and future employment impossible.

2. After acceptance, you must take the CAT English assessment. If you do not receive a satisfactory score upgrading options will be outlined.

For instance many NWCC programs have entrance requirements that include proof of secondary school graduation and/ or completion of secondary school courses.

Inter-Institutional Block Arrangements

Introductory Note: Normally one academic year is made up of 15 units.

Graduates of the Early Childhood Education Certificate are eligible for the following block transfer:

  • three units within the Bachelor of Social Work Degree - UVic
  • 15 units within the Bachelor of Arts (Child and Youth Care) Degree - UVic

Final Notes: Minimum grade point average and other requirements may apply. All transfer requirements should be confirmed with advising personnel at the intended institution.
