Qualified applicants are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Early application is recommended.

Application Fee: $25

Academic (minimum grade needed in bracket)

1. Grade 10 or equivalent

2. English

One of:

  • English 10 (C)
  • ENGL 030 (C)
3. Math

One of:
  • Math 10 (C)
  • MATH 030 (C)
4. Science

  • Science 10 (C)
  • SCIE 030 (C)
Non-Academic 
  • current CPR (Basic Life Support) Level C Certificate with a Standard First Aid program or equivalent
  • medical form completed by a physician indicating suitable physical and emotional health (the form must be completed no more than nine months before the start of the program)

Admission Advice

1. After acceptance you must also provide proof of the following, at least one month before the first class:

  • negative TB screening test (completed no more than six months before the program start date)
  • up-to-date immunizations including diphtheria, measles and mumps
  • BC FoodSafe Level 1 Certificate
  • a Criminal Record Search (from the Solicitor General) indicating no relevant record.
2. High school Biology and Chemistry are recommended.

3. If you do not have the above prerequisites or your courses are over ten years old, you can gain program entry by successfully completing appropriate assessments. For more details, contact a NLC advisor.

English Language Requirements

Summary

If English is not your first language, to enter the University Transfer Program you must have one of (minimum score):

  • A TOEFL score of 213 CBT or 79 IBT
  • An IELTS score of 6.5

General Admission Requirements (All Students)

English Language Requirement - You must have proficiency in English at a level suitable for your desired program.

BC Secondary School (or equivalent)

Canadian citizens or landed immigrants who are applying for admission to Northern Lights College must meet one of the following:

Academic and Career/Technical Programs - You must:

  • have graduated from a BC secondary school, or equivalent; OR
  • be lacking no more than two courses from BC secondary school graduation (if available, these must be completed while attending the college); OR
  • be accepted by special arrangement in view of your experience, maturity or ability.

Academic Upgrading Programs - You must:

  • be at least 17 years old and have been out of school for at least one year OR receive special admission for entry

Vocational Programs - You must:

  • have completed Grade 10 for most programs. However, some programs require Grade 12 with specific prerequisite courses (detailed in the program listings for NLC in Education Planner).

 

Out-of-Province

Mature Student

To be considered a mature student you must be at least 19 years old and have been out of school for at least a year. As a mature student you do not need to be a secondary school graduate but will have to meet the specific admission requirements of your desired program.
