COVID-19: UPDATE

Public post-secondary institutions in BC are prepared to welcome new and current students for classes in Fall 2020 through a variety of learning methods while continuing to adhere to public health guidelines.

In addition to their current services for students, institutions are also developing supports to ensure a smooth and successful transition into the new learning methods for their programs.

1) Program Admission Requirements

Academic (minimum grade needed in bracket)

1. High school graduation or equivalent 

2. English

One of:

  • English 12 (C)
  • equivalent 

Non-Academic

Admission Advice

1. Applicants who do not hold a driver’s licence may be considered on a case-by-case basis.

2. Students are responsible for arranging their medical appointment with the JIBC-approved medical examiner:

Only this medical examiner is acceptable for consideration into the FFTC program. If you are outside of BC, contact Ultima Medical and they will try to secure an appointment with a qualified doctor in your hometown or nearest to it.

3. Previous volunteer work and/or fluency in an additional language other than English may grant you additional points in the selective entry process.


 

2) Institution Admission Requirements

Applicants also have to satisfy JIBC's institution admission requirements as listed below.

English Language Requirements

Summary

One of the following (minimum score):

  • A "C" grade in English 12 or English Literature 12 or equivalent 
  • A TOEFL iBT = 80 overall, with at least a score of 20 in each of the Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing sections
  • An IELTS = 6.5 overall, with no band less than 6.0
  • Canadian Language Benchmark Placement Test (CLB) = 7 Listening, 7 Speaking, 7 Reading, 7 Writing
  • Canadian Academic English Language Test (CAEL) = 60 overall, with at least 50 on all subtests 
  • Cambridge Assessment English (CAE) = "C" in C1 Advanced 
  • VCC's ELSK 0815 and ELSK 0820 (with a grade of "Satisfactory" on both
  • A grade of 3 or "C" in Advance Placement (AP) English Language or Literature
  • A grade of 6 or "C" in International Baccalaureate English Level A (higher level)
  • An undergraduate degree from an English speaking post-secondary institution
  • Other equivalents may be considered by the registrar
