COVID-19: UPDATE

Public post-secondary institutions in BC are prepared to welcome new and current students for classes in Fall 2020 through a variety of learning methods while continuing to adhere to public health guidelines.

In addition to their current services for students, institutions are also developing supports to ensure a smooth and successful transition into the new learning methods for their programs.

Applicants also have to satisfy JIBC's institution admission requirements as listed below.

English Language Requirements

Summary

One of the following (minimum score):

  • A "C" grade in English 12 or English Literature 12 or equivalent 
  • A TOEFL iBT = 80 overall, with at least a score of 20 in each of the Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing sections
  • An IELTS = 6.5 overall, with no band less than 6.0
  • Canadian Language Benchmark Placement Test (CLB) = 7 Listening, 7 Speaking, 7 Reading, 7 Writing
  • Canadian Academic English Language Test (CAEL) = 60 overall, with at least 50 on all subtests 
  • Cambridge Assessment English (CAE) = "C" in C1 Advanced 
  • VCC's ELSK 0815 and ELSK 0820 (with a grade of "Satisfactory" on both
  • A grade of 3 or "C" in Advance Placement (AP) English Language or Literature
  • A grade of 6 or "C" in International Baccalaureate English Level A (higher level)
  • An undergraduate degree from an English speaking post-secondary institution
  • Other equivalents may be considered by the registrar
