Application Deadline Advice

Admission is based upon a first qualified, first-admitted principle which is based on the date and time the applicant meets all admission requirements. Early application is therefore recommended.

Application Fee: $30

Academic (minimum grade in bracket)

1. High school graduation (or equivalent)

Note: If you can demonstrate industry experience you may also be admitted as a mature student through consultation with the Program Coordinator and/or and education advisor.)

2. English

One of:

  • English 12 (60%)
  • English 12 First Peoples (60%)
  • ENGL 090 (60%)
  • ENGL 091 (60%)
  • COMC 100 (60%)
  • ELT 89 (85%)
  • LPI Test (level 5 with a minimum 28/40 essay)
  • iBT TOEFL (80)
  • PTE (54)
  • IELTS (6 with at least a 6 in reading and writing and no band less than 5.5)
  • equivalent assessment

3. Math

One of:

  • Principles of Math 11 (60%)
  • Applications of Math 11 (60%)
  • Foundations of Math 11 (60%)
  • Pre-Calculus 11 (60%)
  • MATH 080 (60%)
  • MATH 082 (60%)
Non-Academic 
  • basic computer skills are recommended

English Language Requirements

Summary

If English is not your first language, direct admission is offered by one of the following (minimum score):

  • A TOELF IBT score of 80
  • An IELTS score of 6.0 with a 6.0 in reading and writing
  • completion of COTR English Language Training /ESL and high school English to the English 90 level
  • equivalent determined by COTR

Conditional admission can be offered after an English Language Assessment. The result will determine if a student has to take ESL and/or High School English or if they can directly enter the full academic program

BC Secondary School (or equivalent)

You must meet the admission requirements of your intended program. (The admission requirements are detailed in the program listings for COTR in Education Planner.)

Mature Student

If you have not graduated from secondary school you may be considered for admission as a mature student as long as you are at least 19 years old on the first day of classes. You must also meet the specific course/program prerequisites for your intended program.

International Student

If you do not qualify for admission under the regular or mature student admission requirements it is possible to be considered for admission by the Register as a special student. For more details contact a COTR advisor.

Inter-Institutional Block Arrangements

Graduates of the Recreation Management Diploma are eligible for the following block transfer:

  • up to 60 credits within the Bachelor of Tourism Management Degree - Capilano

Special Note: Normally one year of academic study is made up of 30 credits.
