1) Program Admission Requirements

Academic (minimum grade needed in bracket)

Choose from one of the following paths:

Path #1: 
1. Grade 10 completion 

2. English
One of: 

  • English 10 (C)
  • Communications 11 (C)
  • ENGL 030 (C) 
3. Math
One of:
  • Essentials of Math 10 (C)
  • Apprenticeship and Workplace Math 10 (C)
  • Applications of Math 10
  • Principles of Math 10
  • MATH 041
  • MATH 030
  • equivalent
Path #2:
ABE/Academic Upgrading Intermediate Certificate with ENGL 030 (C)

Path #3:
General Educational Development (GED) Certificate with ENGL 030, and either MATH 041 (C) or MATH 030 (C)


Non-Academic

  • current TB screening and a health exam including a recent chest X-ray. Official college forms (supplied on acceptance) are needed for this step.
  • submit a resume and a personal handwritten statement indicating interest in the program

Admission Advice

1. It is strongly recommended that you have:

  • secondary school level Foods 11 and 12;
  • Career Preparation/Hospitality Foods or Cafeteria 11 and 12;
  • some recent work experience in a kitchen.

2.  If you do not meet the academic requirements for program entry, you may contact CNC advisor to determine your eligibility for program entry on the basis of mature student status (i.e. 19 years old on the first day of the class and have been out of the regular school system for at least one year)

Applicants also have to satisfy CNC's institution admission requirements as listed below.

English Language Requirements

Summary

Completion of English 12 or English 12 First Peoples (or equivalent) 

If your first language is not English, one of the following is required (minimum score):                 

  • A TOEFL score of 550 (PBT), 213 (CBT) or 80 (IBT)
  • An IELTS score of 6.0, with no band less than 5.5
  • Completion of Level 4 English for Academic Purposes at CNC

  • completion of a BC Adult Graduation Diploma; or
  • completion of the General Education Development (GED) tests; or
  • completion of the Adult Basic Education (ABE) Advanced Certificate

If you have completed courses at other post-secondary institutions, you may request these credits be transferred to CNC. An official transcript from each institution at which the courses were taken must accompany your transfer credit request.
