Application Fee: $15

Academic(minimum grade needed in bracket)

1. One of:

  • high school graduation with English 12 (C) or English 12 First Peoples (C)
  • ABE/Academic Upgrading Advanced Certificate with English 045  (C)
  • General Educational Development (GED) Certificate with English 12 (C) or English 12 First Peoples (C) or English 045 (C)
2. Successfully write the English component of the Student Readiness Assessment (SRA)

Non-Academic
  • submit two letters of reference from a Social Service employer, volunteer supervisor, teacher or social service professional outlining your personal suitability for work in the social service field
  • submit a work/volunteer experience resume
  • at least 30 hours of documented volunteer experience in the last three years
  • submit a written statement no longer than four pages 
  • Criminal Record Search (through the Solicitor General's Office.) 

Admission Advice 

1. The written statement will address your understanding of the social service field, interest in it, and personal attributes that will lead to success in the program.

2. It is strongly recommended that you have current certificates in:

  • Emergency level First Aid
  • FoodSafe

3. Certificates in therapeutic crisis intervention or non-violent crisis intervention are also valuable assets for work in the field. 

4. If you are accepted into the program it's recommended that you also obtain TB testing and complete the immunization schedule suggested by Northern Health.

English Language Requirements

Summary

Completion of English 12

If your first language is not English, one of the following is required (minimum score):                 

  • A TOEFL score of 550 (PBT), 213 (CBT) or 80 (IBT)
  • An IELTS score of 6.0
  • Completion of Level 4 English for Academic Purposes at CNC
