Online applications are open from September 03 to December 13, 2019 for the September 2020 intake.

Proofing documents/transcripts should be submitted by document deadlines: January 10, 2020 for the initial admission requirements; and May 15, 2020 for final document submission.

1) Program Admission Requirements

The admission process consists of three stages. Application is competitive.

Stage 1:

6. Completion of a Medical Terminology course consisting of a minimum of 60 instructional hours with a letter grade of B or higher. (Note: The Medical Terminology Assessment administered through Island Health may not be used to meet this requirement.)

Non-Academic

  • A completed Acknowledgment of Physical and Program Requirements form
  • Attendance at an information session (online info session is available for anyone unable to attend in person)
  • 40 hours of volunteer work in a patient-related environment
  • A resume outlining work experience and personal achievements

Stage 2:
After the document submission deadline, all qualified applicants will receive scheduling instructions for their non-academic assessment. Once all applicants have completed the non-academic assessment, the program calculates an aggregate score for each applicant by equally weighting the academic (combined GPA of admission requirements) and non-academic assessment scores (indicators of program and future professional success) to determine which applicants will receive program seat invitations.

Stage 3: 
The top students each year will be offered seats. To confirm your seat, you must:

  • accept assigned clinical site placements (subject to availability and capacity)
  • have a yearly respiratory mask fit-testing done (prior to the first clinical practice)
  • hold current Standard First Aid and CPR level C (prior to the first clinical placement; currency must be maintained throughout the program);
  • submit a negative TB skin test or clear chest x-ray
  • provide proof of immunizations against preventable, communicable diseases (current immunizations as per the Practice Education Guidelines of BC are highly recommended)  
  • complete a criminal record check done through the Ministry of Pubic Safety & Solicitor General (instructions will be provided by Camosun College) 

Admission Advice

1. All academic admission requirements must be completed within the last five years.

2. Basic computer literacy, including experience with keyboarding, basic internet searches, and email skills are essential to program success. 

3. Students must provide their own transportation, meals, and accommodations while completing their clinical placement.

English proficiency for program admissions at Camosun College requires English 12 (C+) or equivalent.

BC Secondary School (or equivalent)
