The format of the program combines in-school and work-based training. It is normally completed in one year.
The in-school training part is four weeks. This block of training is normally delivered through an ITA approved training institution. Sometimes it may also be met through approved training models (distance education, part-time) and/or a level challenge exam.
The work-based training totals 1680 hours. Based on a 40-hour work week this involves 42 weeks of training.

If you have 2520 (documented) hours of directly related work experience for this position you may challenge the BC Certificate of Qualification written exam. In doing so you believe that your work experience and self-directed study have prepared you to pass the exam.
If you possess a F.I.R. certificate you are eligible to receive a BC Certificate of Qualification for this position without taking an exam (appropriate payment is needed).
