1) Program Admission Requirements

Academic (minimum grade needed in brackets)

1. Grade 12 graduation or equivalent

2. English 12 (C) grade or equivalent English proficiency

Non-Academic 

1. Letter of Intent (500 words or less)

2. Resume

3. Two Letters of Reference

4. Artistic Portfolio

  • Two pieces of original artwork with accompanying description
  • Sketch book
  • two sewn items

5. Interview with Selection Committee

6. Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel (testing to be performed onsite)

Admission Advice

1. It is ok that you may not have a detailed portfolio or sewing experience. A demonstrated interest in fashion through hobby, education, portfolio, or work experience are acknowledged and seriously considered by the department. You are still required to submit all other documentation, participate in an interview, and potentially take sewing and/or drawing courses prior to the starting the program.

2. It is recommended that you have:

  • Imagination and creativity
  • A good aesthetic sense
  • Comfort with a fast-paced environment
  • Good communication skills, both verbal and written
  • The ability to handle criticism
  • The ability to work well with a wide variety of people
  • Motivation, curiosity, and research-orientation
  • Some sewing skills
  • General knowledge of fashion designers and styles

BC Transfer Student

Students transferring between post-secondary institutions in BC may refer to the BC Transfer Guide to search course transferability.

If you have completed some post-secondary education at another institution, you can possibly earn transfer credits toward your program at VCC. Students are responsible for initiating the transfer credit process by submitting a formal request (an Approval for Transfer Credit form) to Registrar's Office attaching all required documents. 

Out-of-Province Transfer Student

Mature Student

You must be at least 18 years old (unless you have graduated from Secondary School) to meet the general admission requirement for VCC. In addition, specific program admission requirements must also be met.
