1) Program Admission Requirements

Academic:

1. ITA Professional Cook 1 Certificate

2. English 10 or equivalent English language proficiency

3. Math 10 or equivalent

4. Valid Food Safe Level 1 Certificate

Note: applicants who do not meet the above requirements may contact the Program Department for a further review. 


Admission Advice:

1.Upon acceptance into the program, you are required to provide:

  • An immunization record (showing current vaccinations for tetanus, hepatitis A and influenza)
  • Negative TB skin test, or if the skin test is positive, then proof of a negative TB chest X-ray valid for one year

2. Applicants must be able to physically handle; all seafood including but not limited to fish & shellfish, beef, lamb, pork, all types of poultry, all types of game, all dairy products, and all associated by-products required to meet the program outcomes. Any other known food allergies must be disclosed.

3. You are recommended to have the physical condition and stamina to meet the demands of the baking industry - the ability to stand for at least five hours and lift 50 lbs.

4. You are recommended to have:

  • Physical condition and stamina to meet the demands of the culinary industry e.g. lift 50lbs.
  • Ability to stand for long periods of time e.g. 5 hours or more
  • Good motor skill coordination
  • Ability to multi-task, with strong and efficient organizational and time management skills
  • Strong reading, comprehension and study skills
  • Work independently
  • Maturity, interpersonal & communication skills
  • Some creativity is an asset

General Admission Requirements (All Students)

English Language Requirement - Applicants must have proficiency in English at a level suitable for their desired program.

You must meet the admission requirements of your intended program before your name is added to a waitlist or registered in a program.

BC Transfer Student

If you have prior post-secondary education that you want to transfer to VCC you must make a formal request through the Registrar's Office by completing an Approval for Transfer Credit form and attaching all required documents. For more information call 604.443.8411.

Mature Student

You must be at least 18 years old (unless you have graduated from Secondary School) to meet the general admission requirement for VCC. In addition, specific program admission requirements must also be met.
