Application Deadline Advice

Applications, along with transcripts and all supporting documents, will be accepted between November 1st and April 1st. 

An entrance audition or interview will be scheduled once all required documents are received. Applications received after April 1st will be considered subject to space availability.

1) Program Admission Requirements

Academic

1.One of:

  • High school graduation
  • General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
  • equivalent

Note: applicants who have not graduated from high school may still be considered, with permission from the Music Department Leader.


2. English

One of:

Note: if you are using an English assessment to meet the English Language Proficiency requirement, the assessment must have been written in the previous calendar year.

Non-Academic 
  • audition requirements differ for each instrument and vary from option to option.
  • diagnostic examination in theory, aural perception and rhythmic skills. Minimum standards are equivalent to:
    • Preparatory Music Theory 1 & 2 (MUSC 1013 and MUSC 1033); and
    • Preparatory Musicianship 1 & 2 (MUSC 1011 and MUSC 1031). 

Admission Advice:

1. Entrance auditions and musicianship examinations are held from February through May. 

2. Students who are accepted/successful at the audition but who require upgrading of theory and musicianship may register concurrently in the recommended preparatory courses (MUSC 1011, 1013, MUSC 1031 and MUSC 1033). 

3. Applications, along with transcripts and all supporting documents, will be accepted by VCC between November 1st and April 1st. General Admission Requirements (All Students)

English Language Requirement - Applicants must have proficiency in English at a level suitable for their desired program.

BC Secondary School (or equivalent)

You must meet the admission requirements of your intended program before your name is added to a waitlist or registered in a program.

BC Transfer Student

Students transfering between post-secondary institutions in B.C. may refer to the BC Transfer Guide to find program transfer credits or BC Articulation Handbook for entrance requirement equivalencies.

If you have prior post-secondary education that you want to transfer to VCC, you must make a formal request through the Registrar's Office by completing an Approval for Transfer Credit form and attaching all required documents. For more information call 604.871.7000.

Mature Student

You must be at least 18 years old (unless you have graduated from Secondary School) to meet the general admission requirement for VCC. In addition, specific program admission requirements must also be met.
