Online applications to UVIC should be submitted by the following application deadlines:

The deadline to submit proof of language proficiency is typically one month after the application deadline. After you apply to UVic, your language-proficiency deadline will be indicated in your online application checklist.

Application Fee: $81 (if all all transcripts come from institutions within Canada); or $142 (If any transcripts come from institutions outside of Canada)

1) Program Admission Requirements

Academic (Minimum grade)
1. High school graduation or equivalent

2. All of the following Grade 12 courses:

English 12 (67%) or equivalent
Three approved academic 12 courses

3. All of the following Grade 11 courses:

English 11 or equivalent
Foundations of Mathematics 11 or Pre-calculus 11 or equivalent
Science 11 or equivalent
Social Studies 11/12 or equivalent

Admission Advice

1. All applicants to UVic (regardless of country of origin or citizenship status) are required to demonstrate competence in the English language prior to admission. You can choose one of several ways to demonstrate language proficiency.

You are not required to provide proof of language proficiency if you have studied full time for at least four years within Canada at the high school and/or post-secondary level, and all of your instruction has been in English.

2. Admission averages are calculated using all required Grade 12 courses for entry to a program.

3. This program is offered by the Department of French and Francophone Studies. In addition to the requirements above, students must consult their Faculty program requirements.

English Language Requirements

Summary

One of the following (minimum scores):

Four years of full-time academic studies or completion of a degree program at a recognized institution in which the primary language of instruction is English (click here for a list of countries)
86% the BC Provincial English 12 Examination within the last three years prior to admission
86% on Grade 12 English or its equivalent in Canada within the last three years prior to admission
A score of 4 on the Advanced Placement Exam in English Language and Composition
A score of 4 on IB Higher Level English
1.5 units of transferable university-level English courses
CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language Assessment) = score of 70 overall, with no section less than 60
IELTS = score of 6.5 overall, with no component less than 6.0
LPI (Language Proficiency Index) = Level 6
MELAB (Michigan English Language Assessment Battery) = score of 90
TOEFL iBT = score of 90 with no section less than 20
TOEFL paper-based = 575
completion of UVic's University Admission Preparation (UAP) program, with a score of 80% or higher
completion of UVic;s University Admission Preparation: Advanced English and Canadian Studies program, with at least 80% in English and at least 60% in Canadian Studies
completion of UVic's University Pathways Program for International Students (a specialized first-year university program that combines academic Enlish and UVic credit courses)

General Admission Requirements (All Students)

For students directly entering an undergraduate program after high school, admission is based on four academic courses.

You must meet the specific admission requirements of your intended program. The program-specific admission requirements are detailed within each program profile in EducationPlannerBC's Undergraduate Program Search Database for UVic.

You must have proficiency in English at a level suitable for your desired program.

BC Transfer Student

If you have completed some post-secondary studies at another institution, you can possibly earn transfer credits toward your program at UVic. Please refer to UVic's Transfer Credit web page. Out-of-Province Transfer Student

Mature Student

Discovery Studies
Discovery studies allows students to develop skills by taking a university course or two without needing to complete a whole degree. As a discovery student, you can register in up to three units of courses per term (that is two classes). You must:

be 21 years old before the first day of class
be a Canadian citizen or permanent resident
provide a letter of introduction describing why you want to take courses and your ability to succeed
meet UVic's English language proficiency requirements
not have been a UVic student before or been refused admission in the past
not have been required to withdraw from any post-secondary institution in the previous three years

Special Access Program
If you haven’t studied at UVic before and are over 23 years old, you can apply to UVic's special access program. It’s for BC residents whose academic achievements have been significantly and adversely affected by health, disability, family circumstances or similar responsibilities.

Special access applicants must:

be at least 23 years of age on the first day of classes
be a first-time student at UVic
be a BC resident
meet all prerequisites for your intended faculty or program
