Individuals who wish to begin an apprenticeship in this program must register with the
ITA along with their sponsors. Application
forms for all programs are available from the ITA website. Online
registration is also available for most programs though the ITA website.
A "Benchperson" is a qualified Saw Filer who is able to bench band saws, including the lining up of head rigs, grinding of band wheels and any other work usually performed by a Benchperson in the Lumber Manufacturing Industry.
Saw Filer- Benchperson Endorsement is a post-Certificate of Qualification (C o Q) training program designed to recognize a specific skill set as defined and approved by industry. The endorsement option is open to individuals who hold a C of Q in Saw Filer or LMI Circular Saw Filer.

- Saw Welding
- Saw shearboards, scrapers, cooling systems and hydraulics
- Tension, Level and Bench Saws
- Saw Filing Room Machines
- Band Mills
- Quality Control
The following credential is required prior to enrolment in the technical training for this occupation:
- Saw Filer Certificate of Qualification, OR
- LMI Circular Sawfiler Certificate of Qualification
An individual who is already a certified Saw Filer can obtain a Benchperson Endorsement by completing the Benchperson program or by challenging the certification. Challenge applications are assessed for proof of workplace hours and scope of experience prior to the acceptance of the individual into the Challenge pathway.
