Application Deadline Advice

Applications may be submitted up to 12 months before the program start date. Qualified applicants are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Early application is recommended.

Application Fee: $40 Domestic, $100 International

1) Program Admission Requirements

Academic (minimum grade needed in bracket)

1. High school graduation or equivalent*

2. Math

One of:

  • Pre-Calculus 11 (C)
  • Selkirk ABE Math 050 (C)
  • equivalent 

(*) Note: Mature students (19 years or older) with at least Grade 10 (including English 11 and Math 11) will also be considered for admission. These courses must be completed before the program entry date.

3. Complete a computerized placement test using the College Readiness Tool (CRT) in reading, writing and mathematics (after your application is submitted) 

Non-Academic

  • Basic computer are skills highly recommended
  • An interview (in person or by telephone) with the School Chair or designate may be required before entry to the program. Interview results are not used as criteria for admission.

Admission Advice
Some employers may require higher level of Math as part of their hiring policies.

Applicants also have to satisfy Selkirk's institution admission requirements as listed below.

English Language Requirements

Summary

If English is not your first language, you must provide one of the following (minimum scores) for entry to Selkirk College University-Transfer, Diploma or Degree programs:

  • Completion of English 12 or equivalent
  • A "C+" grade in advanced core courses in the Selkirk College English Language Program and Provincial Level English 51
  • A TOEFL iBT score of 80
  • An IELTS score of 6.0, with no individual band less than 5.5
  • A Language Proficiency Index of 4
Post Graduate Diploma programs and a few other programs have a higher English Language Proficiency requirement (6.5 IELTS).

General Admission Requirements (All Students)

You must meet the general admission requirements of the college as well as the specific admission requirements of your intended program.

BC Secondary School (or equivalent)

If you have graduated from a BC Secondary School (or equivalent) you are eligible for general admission to Selkirk. You must also meet any admission requirements of your intended program.

Out-of-Province

If you have graduated from Secondary School (or equivalent) you are eligible for general admission to Selkirk. You must also meet any admission requirements of your intended program.

BC Transfer Student

If you have attended another post-secondary institution, you may be approved to have the credit from courses completed at that institution transferred to Selkirk College. You are strongly encouraged to apply for transfer-credit evaluation at the time of application to the program. Students can use BC Transfer Guide to lookup courses that transfer within BC post-secondary institutions.

If you have attended another post-secondary institution, you may be approved to have the credit from courses completed at that institution transferred to Selkirk College. You are strongly encouraged to apply for transfer-credit evaluation at the time of application to the program.

Mature Student

If you are at least 19 years old at the time of registration you are eligible for general admission to Selkirk. You must also meet any admission requirements of your intended program.

Other Student (including Special Consideration)

If you do not have BC high school graduation, you may still qualify for general admission in one of the following ways:

  • Be 19 years of age or older, or
  • Be under 19 years of age but have a written recommendation from your Secondary School Principal, or
  • Be considered by the Admissions & Standards Committee or Registrar to be capable of succeeding in college courses in view of your particular circumstances

You must also meet the specific admission requirements of your intended program.
