Application Deadline Advice

Applications may be submitted up to 12 months before the program start date, in September. Qualified applicants are accepted on a first-come, first-served basis. Early application is recommended.

International students are advised to apply well in advance to allow for appropriate time for Study Permit processing.

1) Program Admission Requirements

Academic (minimum grade)
1. High school graduation or equivalent

Note: Mature students (19 years or older) with at least Grade 10 (including English 10 and Math 10) will also be considered for admission. These courses must be completed before the program entry date.

2. Workplace Math 11 (60%) or equivalent
3. Complete a computerized placement test using the College Readiness Tool (CRT) in reading, writing and mathematics (after your application is submitted) 


Non-Academic
1. Basic computer are skills highly recommended
2. An interview (in person or by telephone) with the School Chair or designate may be required before entry to the program. Interview results are not used as criteria for admission.

1. Some employers may require higher level of Math as part of their hiring policies.

English Language Requirements

If English is not your first language, you must provide one of the following (minimum scores) for entry to Selkirk College University-Transfer, Diploma or Degree programs:

  • English 12 or equivalent
  • A "C+" grade in advanced core courses in the Selkirk College English Language Program and Provincial Level English 51
  • TOEFL iBT = overall score of 80
  • IELTS = overall score of 6.0, with no individual band less than 5.5
  • Language Proficiency Index (LPI) = score of 4
  • Duolingo English Test (DET) = score of 110 (equivalent to IELTS 6.5 overall); or score of 105 (equivalent to IELTS 6.0); note: DET scores are accepted on a temporary basis when in-person testing services are not available

Post Graduate Diploma programs and a few other programs have a higher English Language Proficiency requirement (6.5 IELTS).

  • BC high school graduation or equivalent
  • Be at least 19 years of age at the time of application
  • Be under 19 years of age but have a written recommendation from your secondary school's Principal

BC Secondary School (or equivalent)

In addition to meeting Selkirk's general admission requirements, you must meet the specific admission requirements of your intended program. The program-specific admission requirements are detailed within each program profile in EducationPlannerBC's Program Search Database for Selkirk College.

Out-of-Province

In addition to meeting Selkirk's general admission requirements, you must meet the specific admission requirements of your intended program. The program-specific admission requirements are detailed within each program profile in EducationPlannerBC's Program Search Database for Selkirk College.

BC Transfer Student

If you have completed some post-secondary studies at another institution, you can possibly earn transfer credits toward your current program at Selkirk College. Please refer to Selkirk College's Transfer Credit web page. The BC Transfer Guide allows you to check on the transferability of your courses taken at another BC post-secondary institution.

Transfer credit is not done automatically. Students are responsible for initiating the transfer credit process. To receive transfer credit, you must submit an official transcript with your Application for Admission or Readmission along with a Transfer Credit Request form. A detailed course description/outline may also be required before credit can be evaluated.

You are strongly encouraged to apply for transfer-credit evaluation at the time of application to the program. It usually takes 4-6 weeks to process general transcript evaluations once all documentation is received. Complex assessments, that require consultation may take considerably longer.

Out-of-Province Transfer Student
