1) Program Admission Requirements

Academic 

1. Completion of a two-year diploma (or 60 credits or equivalent) from a recognized post-secondary institution, including at least 24 credits at the second-year level and a "B" grade point average

2. Provide proof of proficiency in accounting and/or numeracy*:

One of the following:

  • Successful completion of relevant courses articulated within an eligible Block Transfer Agreement
  • Successful completion of one or more college/university level financial or managerial accounting courses (equivalent to 3 credits) with at least a "C" (63%) grade
  • Successful completion of RRU’s Continuing Studies Financial Accounting Fundamentals, with at least a "C" (63%) grade.*
  • Successful completion of two or more college/university courses (the equivalent of 6 credits or more) in math and/or statistics with at least a "C" (63%) grade in each course. Please contact our Admissions team for details.
  • In some cases, a minimum of five years’ experience in a role that includes substantial financial management responsibilities in areas such as budgeting, bookkeeping, and/or financial statement preparation may be acceptable.

Notes:
(*) If your accounting/numeracy courses were completed five or more years ago, you are strongly recommended to take RRU’s Continuing Studies Financial Accounting Fundamentals prior to program start.

3. Provide proof of proficiency in written communications:

One of the following:

  • Successful completion of relevant courses articulated within an eligible Block Transfer Agreement
  • Successful completion of an English composition or academic writing course at the post-secondary level (equivalent to 3 credits), with at least a "C" (63%) grade
  • Successful completion of RRU’s Continuing Studies Academic Writing and Critical Thinking course, with at least a "C" (63%) grade
  • Other higher education that demonstrates written communications proficiency, as determined by admissions or faculty adjudicators

Non-Academic

  • At least two years of full-time work experience

Admission Advice

1. If you don't meet the formal academic requirements for admission of third-year entry, your application may be considered based on a combination of your education, informal learning and the real world experience as per RRU's flexible admission policy. If you have less than 15 credits of undergraduate study, you need at least seven years of full-time work experience (with at least 3 years at a supervisory, management or project lead level). 

2. If English is not your primary language, you are required to meet Royal Roads University's English Language Requirements (for applicants applying for third-year entry to undergraduate programs) through one of the following ways:

  • Completion of a diploma or degree program from a recognized post-secondary institution where English is the primary language of instruction in an English speaking country
  • Test score from one of the English Language Proficiency test options:
    • IELTS Academic (6.5 overall, with at least 6.5 in writing and speaking, and 6.0 in listening and reading)
    • TOEFL iBT (88 overall, with at least 24 in writing, and 20 in listening, reading and speaking)
    • PTE-A (60 overall, with at least 60 in writing and speaking, and 58 in listening and reading)
    • DET (115 overall with at least 110 for literacy, comprehension and conversation, and 115 for production)
  • Completion one of RRU's international pathway programs (University Academic Preparation)

3. In limited cases, alternative external course offerings will be considered to satisfy the requirement of accounting/numeracy and written communications. If you are considering a course alternative to supplement your application, please contact RRU's admissions team with a course link and outline for review.

Applicants also have to satisfy RRU's institution admission requirements as listed below.

English Language Requirements

English is the primary language of instruction and communication in all domestic programs at Royal Roads University (RRU). As part of the application process, all applicants whose first language is not English must demonstrate proficiency in English speaking, listening, reading and writing when you apply. Verify the following information with RRU directly

For applicants applying for first-year entry with English Language Support*:

One of:

  • IELTS Academic (6.0 overall, with at least 5.5 in listening and reading, and 6.0 in writing and speaking)
  • TOEFL iBT (79 overall, with at least 18 each in reading, 23 in writing, 19 in listening and speaking)
  • PTE-A (55 overall, with at list 55 in writing and speaking, and 51 in listening and reading)
  • DET (105 overall with at least 95 in literacy, comprehension, conversation and production)
Note(*):
  • There are three programs with language support:
    • Bachelor of Business Administration in Innovation and Sustainability
    • Bachelor of Arts in Global Tourism Management
    • Bachelor of Arts in International Hotel Management
  • If you don't meet the minimum language requirements, you may still be conditionally admitted by enrolling in one of the international pathway programs through the Royal Roads University's Global Learning and Language Centre.

For applicants applying for first-year entry to undergraduate programs:

One of:

  • Completion of a diploma or degree program from a recognized post-secondary institution where English is the primary language of instruction in an English speaking country
  • Test score from one of the English Language Proficiency test options:
    • IELTS Academic (6.5 overall, with no band below 6.0)
    • TOEFL iBT (88 overall, with at least 20 each in reading, writing, listening and speaking)
    • PTE-A (60 overall, with no section below 58)
  • Completion one of RRU's international pathway programs

For applicants applying for third-year entry to undergraduate programs: 

One of:

  • Completion of a diploma or degree program from a recognized post-secondary institution where English is the primary language of instruction in an English speaking country

Royal Roads University does not have a specific Mature Student admission category. However, Royal Roads University's Flexible Admission Process may serve the needs of mature students, if you do not have the formal academic training to qualify for your desired program.

Flexible Admission

Applicants who do not have the formal academic education to qualify for admission may be assessed on the basis of both their formal education and their informal learning, in accordance with the Flexible Admission Policy at Royal Roads University. This includes applicants with a complex learning history and for whom documenting their learning is either difficult or complex.
