1) Program Admission Requirements

Academic (minimum grade)

1. One of:

  • High school graduation or equivalent
  • Minimum 19 years of age and out of high school for at least one year as of the first day of classes

2. English 11 (50%) or Trades Entrance Assessment (Reading Comprehension - 83%) or equivalent alternatives

3. Math
One of:

  • Pre-calculus 11 (50%)
  • Foundations of Math 11 (50%)
  • Apprenticeship and Workplace Math 11 (50%)
  • Workplace Math 11 (50%)
  • Principles of Math 11 (50%)
  • Applications of Math 11 (50%)
  • Essentials of Math 11 (50%)
  • ABE MATH 011, MATH 084 and MATH 085, MATH 080 or IALG 011 (50%)
  • Trades Entrance Assessment (63%)
  • Equivalent

Note:  Applicants who have not satisfied the Math requirement within the last seven (7) years must write the TEA Mathematics test and must receive a minimum of 63%.

Non-Academic   

1. You are recommended to have good colour vision and an interest in mechanics.

2. Specific student characteristics such as good general health, strength and stamina, ability to tolerate loud noise and comfort working at heights exceeding 6 feet are recommended. Please see OC's program webpage for more details.

English Language Requirements

English is the language of instruction and communication at Okanagan College. All applicants, including Canadian citizens, whose native or primary language is other than English, must demonstrate a command of English sufficient to meet the demands of classroom instruction and written assignments.

Applicants Whose First Language Is Not English

If English is not your first language, you must submit documentation of ONE OF the following when applying to a diploma, degree and certificate programs:

  • For the Fall 2020 and Winter 2021 terms, a Duolingo English Test Score of 110 for admission to the Bachelor of Business Administration program or a score of 105 for admission to most other programs
  • A TOEFL score of at least 550 (paper-based), 213 (computer-based), or 79 (Internet-based).
  • An overall IELTS (academic) band score of 6.5 with no band below 6.0 for admission to the Bachelor of Business Administration program or a band score of 6.0 with no band below 6.0 for admission to most other programs.
  • A PTE (academic) combined score of 58 with no skill score below 55 for admission to the Bachelor of Business Administration program or a combined score of 56 with no band below 55 for admission to most other programs.
  • A score exceeding level 4 on the Okanagan College English Language Assessment (OCELA).

  • A minimum grade of 70% in each EAPD 040, EAPW 040 and EAPR 040 for admission to the Bachelor of Business Administration program or a minimum grade of 60% in EAPD 040, EAPW 040 and EAPR 040 for admission to most other programs.
  • A minimum grade of 70% in B.C. secondary school English 12 or its equivalent for the Bachelor of Business Administration program or a minimum grade of 60% for most other programs.

  • A transcript showing completion of an English literature or composition course at a recognized university or college in Canada with a minimum grade of 50%.
  • A minimum score of level 5 on the Language Proficiency Index test (available only in BC) for o the Bachelor of Business Administration program or level 4 for most diploma and certificate programs.

If you have successfully completed a diploma or degree from an accredited institution at which English is the language of instruction, you may submit your academic transcript for review by Okanagan College. Subject to verification, this diploma or degree may be used to meet the English requirement for admission to Okanagan College.

BC Secondary School (or equivalent)

  • Regular applicants must have secondary graduation (or equivalent) or are currently enrolled in Grade 12.

  • To apply for transfer credit, students must submit a Transfer Credit Request in person, by mail or by fax along with an official (signed and sealed) transcript issued
  • The evaluation fee for transcripts from post-secondary institutions outside of B.C is $50 per transcript.

BC Transfer Student

Applicants must satisfy all general and program-specific admission requirements.

To apply for transfer credit, students must submit a Transfer Credit Request in person, by mail or by fax along with an official (signed and sealed) transcript issued within the past six months.

Mature Student

Mature students are at least 19 years of age and have been out of full-time high school for at least one year prior to starting their program at Okanagan College. Grade 12 graduation is not required (unless specified), but the applicant must satisfy all general and program-specific admission requirements.

International Student

  • Applicants must be at least 18 years of age or turn 18 during their first semester at Okanagan College or have completed the equivalent of BC Grade 12.

  • Applicants who are 17 years of age may be admitted to the Spring and Summer Sessions of the English for Academic Purpose (EAP) Program and to any of the Intensive English Communication Program sessions.
  • International students holding temporary Canadian resident status may study in Canada for up to six months. Those intending to study in Canada for more than six months must hold a valid study permit issued by Citizenship and Immigration Canada. How to Apply

Applicants can use the online application form to apply for admissions to Okanagan College. If an applicant is unable to submit an online application, the College will accept paper applications with the non-refundable application fee.

Apprenticeship Pathway

This program follows the Industry Training Authority (ITA) prescribed course curriculum for institutional entry to Aircraft Structural Technician.

Upon successful completion of the program, Transport Canada will grant graduates ten months experience credit towards the 36 month experience requirement for an Aircraft Maintenance Engineer license (AME-S).

To progress as an apprentice, you will need to find an employer who will sponsor your apprenticeship and register with the ITA. You will then be able to complete the additional work-based (on-the-job training) training hours necessary for ITA and Transport Canada certifications.
