Students are admitted based on their date of qualification. Early application and documentation submission is extremely important. Regular application periods are:

Admission Advice
1. If you are unable to satisfy the English proficiency requirement to enter the undergraduate program at KPU, you may be able to begin your studies through the Faculty’s pathway program. It gives you the option of taking English proficiency upgrading courses, while simultaneously taking a limited number of undergraduate courses at KPU before becoming eligible for admission to undergraduate studies.

2. Aside from program entry/admission requirements, there are also specific course registration requirements (called prerequisites) which are listed within each KPU course description. In order to register for individual courses and complete the program, please complete the course prerequisites.

3. A Second Language 11 course (excluding Beginner's or Introductory Language 11 courses) is required, if you wish to complete the Bachelor of Arts degree without having to take a 3-credit undergraduate-level non-English language course  from the approved list.

Applicants also have to satisfy KPU's institution admission requirements as listed below.

English Language Requirements

All applicants to undergraduate studies must satisfy KPU's Undergraduate English Proficiency Requirement through one of the following ways (with minimum grades in brackets):
  • English Studies 12 (C+) or equivalent
  • English First Peoples 12 (C+) or equivalent
  • Literary Studies 12 (C+) or equivalent 
  • IB (International Baccalaureate) English A1 or A2 (HL or SL) with a minimum grade of 3 (or C+)
  • AP (Advanced Placement) English Language and Composition or AP English Literature and Composition with a minimum grade of 2 (or C+)
  • 3 credits of undergraduate-level English course (C-) from a recognized post-secondary institution where English in the primary language of instruction
  • A baccalaureate degree, or two-year diploma, or 60 undergraduate-level credits, at a recognized post-secondary institution where English is the primary language of instruction (2.0 cumulative GPA)
  • Both KPU ESLT 0381 (B) and ELST 0383 (B)
  • Both KPU ELST 0381 (B) and KPU placement score higher than ELST 0383 level
  • KPU ENGQ 1091 (C) or ENGQ 1092 (C) or ENGQ 1099 (C)
  • KPU Placement Test into ENGL 1100
  • IELTS Academic score = at least overall 6.5, with 6.0 in each band (within the last two years)
  • TOEFL Internet-based score = at least 88, with no sub score less than 20 (within the last two years)
  • CAEL score = at least 70, with no sub score less than 60 (within the last two years)
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE) score = at least 61 (within the last two years)
  • LPI score = at least level 5, with an essay score of 30 or higher (within the last two years)
  • Duolingo English Test score = at least 110 (written within the last two years; accepted on a temporary basis until in-person testing resumes)

General Admission Requirements (All Students)

1. Qualify for one of the applicant categories:

  • high school graduation
  • mature student status (be at least 19 years old on the first day of class)
  • 24 transfer credits at the undergraduate-level with at least a 2.0 GPA
  • other acceptable admission category (for indigenous applicant who wishes to be considered for admission on an individual basis

2. English Proficiency

One of:

  • English Studies 12 (C+) or equivalent
  • English First Peoples 12 (C+) or equivalent
  • Literary Studies 12 (C+) or equivalent 
  • IB (International Baccalaureate) English A1 or A2 (HL or SL) with a minimum grade of 3 (or C+)
  • AP (Advanced Placement) English Language and Composition or AP English Literature and Composition with a minimum grade of 2 (or C+)

Mature Student

KPU welcomes students of all walks and ages. If you have not graduated from high school, have taken fewer than 24 post-secondary credits, and are 19 years of age or older, you can be admitted as a mature student as long as you meet all other academic admission requirements for your intended program at KPU. International Student

Kwantlen Polytechnic University accepts applications from international students who meet the English Proficiency Requirement. All international undergraduate applicants are required to demonstrate English language proficiency prior to admission.
