1) Program Admission Requirements

Academic (minimum grade)

1. High school graduation or equivalent or

  • One course short of BC secondary school graduation
  • 19 years old by the end of the first month of the first semester of attendance
  • 17 years old on the first day of the first semester of attendance and has not been in school for at least one year
  • Completion of a certificate or equivalent from a special needs program and has been in school for 12 years

2. English 12 (C) or equivalent

Note: based on both course and provincial exam grades

3. Math 11 (C) or equivalent

3. Biology 11 (C+) or Biology 12 (C+) or equivalent

4. Chemistry 11 (C+) or Biology 12 (C+) or equivalent

5. One of:

  • Biology 12 (C+) or equivalent
  • Chemistry 12 (C+) or equivalent
  • Geology 12 (C+) or equivalent
  • Physics 12 (C+) or equivalent

Note: The Grade 12 Science requirement does not apply, if you have used a Grade 12 course to meet the Biology or Chemistry requirements above.

Non-Academic

1. Minimum 18 years of age by December 31 of year of program start

2. The following will be required after Douglas College determines that you have met all of the academic prerequisites: 3. Two letters of reference from non-family sources, at least one of which is veterinary or animal-related
admission interview may be required

1. All of the admission required courses and documentation must be completed by the application deadline (exceptions for high school students). 

2. Enrollment to this program is limited, and thus, admission is competitive. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee admission to this program.

If you have completed post-secondary studies at another institution, you can possibly earn transfer credits toward your current program at Douglas College. Please refer to Douglas College's Transfer Credit web page. The transfer credit evaluation process involves a form, a fee, and sealed, official transcripts.

Transfer credit is not done automatically. Students are responsible for initiating the transfer credit process. To receive transfer credit, you must submit an official transcript with your Application for Admission or Readmission along with a Transfer Credit Request form. A detailed course description may also be required before credit can be evaluated.

You are strongly recommended to request transfer credit at least four months in advance of your first semester of attendance. Requests for evaluation of credit received after this time may not be processed in time.

Out-of-Province Transfer Student
