1) Program Admission Requirements

Academic

Route A: Admission for Secondary School Graduates:

  • High school graduation or equivalent (General College Admission Requirements) 
  • English 12 (C) or equivalent English Proficiency Requirement
  • Foundations of Math 11 (C), or Pre-Calculus 11 (C), or equivalent
  • Three grade 11 or 12 courses with a minimum grade of 'C'
  • PE 11 or 12 or equivalent is recommended

Route B. Admission for Post-Secondary Applicants (students who have completed 12 or more university transferable credits)

  • High school graduation or equivalent (General College Admission Requirements) 
  • English 12 (C) or equivalent English Proficiency Requirement
  • Foundations of Math 11 (C), or Pre-Calculus 11 (C), or equivalent
  • At least 12 credits of post-secondary study with at least a 2.33 GPA (ie - between a "C" and "C+")

Non-Academic (All Applicants)

  • Submit two reference letters from coaches, Physical Education (PE) teachers or community leaders verifying one season of sport experience and a character reference
  • An interview may be required

Academic Advice

1. A professional referee may include but is not limited to: a teacher, coach, employer, etc. Family members are not able to act as referees. Each referee's full name, contact information, and nature of relationship to applicant must be provided.

2. Admission to the Sport Science Diploma program is evaluated based upon:

  • Availability of seats; and
  • All of the academic admission requirements (in either Route A or Route B listed above); and
  • All of the non-academic admission requirements listed above
  • Applicant ranking as determined by a process of preferential admission evaluation. The preferential admission process will assign scores to:
    • Two professional references
    • GPA

General Admission Requirements (All Students)

You are eligible for enrollment at Douglas College if you meet the General Admission Requirements along with the specific admission requirements of your intended program. The program-specific admission requirements are detailed within each program profile for Douglas College in EducationPlannerBC's Program Search Database.

General Admission Requirements

1. One of:

  • BC secondary school graduation (or the equivalent in another school system)
  • One course short of BC secondary school graduation
  • 19 years old by the end of the first month of the first semester of attendance
  • 17 years old on the first day of the first semester of attendance and has not been in school for at least one year
  • Completion of a certificate or equivalent from a special needs program and has been in school for 12 years

2. English

One of:

  • English 12 (C)*
  • English Studies 12 (C)

You must also meet the college's English Language Proficiency Requirement and the specific admission requirements of your intended program.

BC Transfer Student

All applicants must meet the General Admission Requirements for Douglas College.

If you have completed post-secondary studies at another institution, you can possibly earn transfer credits toward your current program at Douglas College. Please refer to Douglas College's Transfer Credit web page. The transfer credit evaluation process involves a form, a fee, and sealed, official transcripts.

Transfer credit is not done automatically. Students are responsible for initiating the transfer credit process. To receive transfer credit, you must submit an official transcript with your Application for Admission or Readmission along with a Transfer Credit Request form. A detailed course description may also be required before credit can be evaluated.

You are strongly recommended to request transfer credit at least four months in advance of your first semester of attendance. Requests for evaluation of credit received after this time may not be processed in time.

Out-of-Province Transfer Student
