1) Program Admission Requirements

Academic (minimum grade)
1. High school graduation or equivalent
2. English 12 (C+) or equivalent
3. English Language Competency
One of: 

  • Three years of full-time, face-to-face secondary or post-secondary education at an accredited institution where English is the language of instruction and is also one of the country’s official languages. (English as a Second Language/Additional Language courses are not included in this three-year calculation)
  • International English Language Testing System (IELTS) with minimum scores of:
    • Speaking: 7.0
    • Listening: 7.5
    • Reading: 6.5
    • Writing: 7.0
    • Overall Band Score: 7.0
  • Canadian English Language Benchmarks Assessment for Nurses (CELBAN) with minimum scores of:
    • Speaking: 8.0
    • Listening: 10.0
    • Reading: 8.0
    • Writing: 7.0

4. Pre-calculus 11 (C) or equivalent
5. PNUR 101 (C+) or equivalent 

Note:

  • Biology 12 (C) or BIOL 090 (C) or BIOL 103 (C) is a prerequisite for PNUR 101.
  • Camosun College's BIOL 150 and BIOL 151, or BIOL 152 and BIOL 153, or BIOL 143 and 144 may be used as equivalents to PNUR 101

Non-Academic
1. Upon acceptance into the program and before the program starts, you are required to provide the following:

  • TB skin test result (must be done within 3 months of program start)
  • Evidence of of your immunizations or immunity to preventable, communicable diseases. It's highly recommended you maintain current immunizations as per the Practice Education Guidelines of B.C
  • Yearly respirator mask 'fit-testing'. Fitting will be completed in the program and you will be responsible for associated costs
  • Standard First Aid certificate (must be maintained throughout the program)
  • CPR Level 'C' (must be maintained throughout the program)
  • Criminal Record Check (Camosun will send you information on how to complete your Criminal Record Check after you have been accepted to your program.)

Admission Advice
1. Failure to comply with immunization guidelines could a student’s ability to successfully complete the clinical/practicum placement course and/or a clinical/practicum.

2. Due to COVID-19 restrictions, students who are unable to complete an IELTS or CELBAN assessment have the option of demonstrating English Language Proficiency by achieving the following scores on the TOEFL internet-based test (TOEFL Home):

  • Speaking: 23
  • Listening: 27
  • Reading: 19
  • Writing: 27
  • Overall Band Score: 96 

3. There is priority seating in this program for students of Indigenous ancestry. 

4. For program completion, students must complete all math requirements within the program without the aid of a calculator (in both written and practical testing situations as well as in Consolidated Practice Experiences).

English proficiency for admission to most programs at Camosun College requires English 12 (C+) or equivalent.

Note(*): Duolingo English Test (DET) score of 105 is for General Admission to most Certificate and Diploma programs, and Bachelor of Business Administration programs (exceptions: Nursing and certain other Health-related programs). Score of 115 is for admission to Post-Degree programs (all majors) and Degree programs offered by Centre for Sport and Exercise Education.
