1) Program Admission Requirements

Academic (minimum grade in brackets)

1. English

One of:

  • English Studies 12
  • First Peoples English 12 
  • ENGL 050
  • ENGL 055
  • Both ENGL 056 and 057
  • Equivalent

2. Pre-Calculus 12 (C) or equivalent 

3. Physics 12 (C) or equivalent 

4. Chemistry 12 (C) or equivalent 

5. Calculus 12 and Programming 12 are recommended if these courses are available at your school 

Admission Advice

1. English proficiency is required for all students entering CMTN programs.  Please visit the English Language Alternatives page to see other approved equivalent of English Studies 12. 

2. If you are missing Physics 12 and/or Chemistry 12 or equivalent, you are still encouraged to apply as your application will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis.

3. If you do not have the prerequisites for the courses you wish to take, you have the option of taking upgrading courses along with selected university credit courses. 

4. If you are unsure of the courses needed for program entry and/or for course registration, contact a CMTN Educational Advisor. Advisors are available to help you access and navigate the courses/programs of interest to you.

Each program has individual admissions requirements. To be considered for admission, you must meet or exceed the requirements for your chosen program. You must also meet the English proficiency requirement at a level suitable for your desired program. For most of Coast Mountain College's programs, applicants are offered admission on a first qualified, first admitted basis.

BC Transfer Student

You must meet the specific admission requirements of your intended program. The program-specific admission requirements are detailed within each program profile for Coast Mountain College (CMTN) in EducationPlannerBC's Program Search Database.

If you have completed post-secondary studies at another institution and wish to gain transfer credit, please refer to CMTN's Transfer Credit web page. The transfer credit evaluation process involves a form, a fee, and sealed, official transcripts.

To have courses from another institution evaluated for transfer credit at CMTN, you must submit an Transfer Credit Request Form along with official transcripts from each institution attended. Use the BC Transfer Guide to check whether or not your course from another BC post-secondary institution is eligible for transfer credit. Out-of-Province Transfer Student

Mature Student

Select programs accept mature students (applicants over the age of 19) in lieu of high school graduation. Individual course requirements (for example, English 12) still need to be met for program entry.  Programs where accrediting bodies explicitly require high school graduation are exempt.
