Description

Sheet Metal Workers lay out, fabricate, assemble, weld, install, and service the following areas: ducting, spouting, fitting cabinets, gutters, copings, flashings, supporting devices, wall systems, building envelopes, ornamental work and integral equipment associated with the blowpipe, air pollution, heating, ventilating, air conditioning, roofing, restaurant, kitchen, marine installation and hospital equipment fields.

The program combines technical and work-based training. It generally takes four years to complete.

The technical training is made up of four levels. Each level is 240 hours (six to eight weeks). This block of training is normally delivered through an ITA approved training institution. Sometimes it may also be met through approved training models (distance education, part-time) and/or a level challenge exam.

The work-based training totals 6,240 hours. Based on a 30-hour work week this involves 208 weeks of training.

Note: The harmonized Sheet Metal Worker program was implemented in April 1, 2019.  For more information, please visit OPSN 2018 011
