    Register for a course

    You can register for most courses without being enrolled in a program. Most courses are offered continuously, but some are paced with set start and end dates.

    Many programs have open admission, but there are exceptions. You must meet the specific admission requirements of your intended program.   • English Language Requirements

    English Language Requirements

    English proficiency equivalent to English 12 or higher is required for post-secondary level courses at TRU-Open Learning. It is students' responsibility to determine if you have English language proficiency suitable to the course or program you would like to take at TRU-Open Learning.

    If you have completed some post-secondary studies at another institution, you can possibly earn transfer credits toward your program at TRU-Open Learning. The BC Transfer Guide allows you to check on the transferability of your courses taken at another BC post-secondary institution. Please refer to TRU-Open Learning's Transfer Credit web page for details (including procedures for transfer credit assessment).
  • Out-of-Province Transfer Student

Thompson Rivers University, Open Learning

The Thompson Rivers University, Open Learning (TRU-OL) is a public educational institution dedicated to providing lifelong learning opportunities through distance education.

TRU-OL's role is to provide leadership in the development and implementation of open learning in BC, and to coordinate open-learning opportunities in BC. ("Open learning" means a flexible approach to delivering programs, with the goal of increasing access to learning opportunities.) Through TRU-OL, students can enroll in courses delivered by the province's other participating universities (eg-Simon Fraser University, University of British Columbia and University of Victoria). TRU-OL also grants academic credit for non-formal learning and skills and knowledge gained in the workplace.

TRU-OL delivers about 200 distance education courses and grants a variety of certificate, diploma, and degree credentials that are recognized throughout BC and beyond by other educational institutions and employers. TRU-OL also offers secondary school completion opportunities.

TRU-OL serves students throughout Canada and, in some cases, the world. TRU-OL is committed to accessibility, opportunity and flexibility in education.

TRU-OL offers a wide range of support services through its Student Services,and Education Information Departments. Staff can help students develop educational plans and provide information about entrance requirements, prerequisites, transfer credit, challenge credit and course sequencing and selection.
